As of july 1st there are some new finable offences and massive fine increases. Some interesting ones I thought I would inform you of are below.

It's now an offence to smoke in car with a person under 18 present. $239. I would expect a lot of these could/would be issued and a lot of unhappy smokers.

Another interesting one is Offensive behaviour by a person in a motor vehilce (only in St kilda) $119

Drunk in public place is has gone up to a massive fine of $478, offensive behaviour is now $478 also. Big night out could become very expensive if you don't behave.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have an operation "quit" campain to target driver's smoking in above circumstances.

wow.. thanks again graeme. i went out last night and i noticed last night a massive Drug test setup and lots of NOU's near toorak rd/ chapel st. a commodore gets pulled over and defected and a skyline gets let through! whats the odds? lol

never seen so many cops out on a wednesday night

This makes me wish I was under 18. I hate it when people smoke while I'm in their car.

You shouldn't smoke in your car without consent of all passengers anyway. That's just common courtesy.

All those laws are harmless though. Just don't be an idiot. Plus less time spent smoking means less cancer anyway :D

Even if these are revenue raisers atleast they are out there for a better purpose than vehicles and their modifications. In particular I like the drunk and offensive behaviour in public fines. Hopefully alot of these get handed out to trouble makers. Also smoking in a car under 18 is probably a good one.

About f**king time. It should be illegal to smoke in a car FULL STOP. You can't eat, talk on a phone, sms, read, drink so WHY can you smoke.

ummm you can eat and drink in a car? I smoke in cars, tbqh it's no more distracting than adjusting the volume on your stereo, perhaps they should ban those too? (goes hand in hand with then offensive use of a motor vehicle thing LOL)

Yeah not sure, perhaps Graeme can clarify. I think it falls under effectively controlling the vehicle.

What I meant was, it takes 2 seconds to adjust the volume where as smoking you've got something in your hand the whole time, you have to find it, light it, smoke it then butt it. Not a 2 second job.

Smokers will disagree but shit hey!

passive smoking is filthy sh*t lol

Agreed.

I wish they'd make a public smoking ban already. I'm sick of gagging when walking down the street or into shopping centres. Children/babies have to breathe that in too!

Until they provide smoking areas that are 'undercover' as well, I'd have to disagree with that one. - us smokers are people too :) It's bad enough as it is that we can't even stand under a covered area regardless of how high the ceiling is :D

There was that guy who got a fine for eating a Mars bar i think last year?

Great laws, smoking in cars should be banned i reckon. Sick of people asking me "can i have a smoke" while i am driving, i say no and they beg and beg till i can't be bothered putting up a fight. Ban ban ban! (Sorry if you read this Carlo and Fatty) <3

    • The front prop shaft from my GTR had very notchy unis, which obviously needed replacement but unfortunately uses the (usually) non-replaceable (staked) type.     A new shaft is something like $2K plus shipping from Japan.   I wouldn't even bother asking the local Nissan spares dept.     Rang Hardy Spicer but no go, which surprised me a little.     There's a place over Dandenong way that would make me a 'performance' shaft but un-necessary in my situation.   They claimed to be getting the equipment in to replace staked unis but couldn't give me a timeframe.   Anyway, long story short, found a place to do the work just 5 mins from me: https://knoxdriveshafts.com.au $420 (cash) and about a week later I have my driveshaft back.   Price includes balancing. Owner is a one man band working out of a shed in his backyard but from what I could see he's very well setup with some expensive equipment.
    • Thanks. That's what I was after. One of the kits, the o-ring side is too big diameter. The other kit is a plate with a o-ring to seal and the hose connection offset.
    • oops that seems much easier lol.
    • Are you using the factory rail?  Is there any reason you don't want to use one of the two you already have, they don't have to attach to the fuel rail directly.  If you 100% must have a FPR that directly bolts to the fuel rail, you could get a Radium setup. I use a radium fuel rail and the direct mount regulator, it is quite a sexy setup.
