is the standard rb25 flywheel in my 33 gunna be fine to balance up on my rb30 crank and use in my 2530? im assuming that there wasnt any huge weight difference between rb25det flywheel and rb30e flywheel? i have the box out of my 33 already so access to flywheel is easy and my crank is sitting at my engine builders waiting for a flywheel so we can balance it.  thanks james

all rb engines use the same flywheel so yes but id recommend a chromoly flywheel for peace of mind, herd some bad stories with high hp cars and stock flywheels
Like what? Flywheels disintegrating at high revs???

down here in hobart recently a flywheel came off an old holden and injured someone pretty badly but old holden engines had a habbit of loosing flywheels once high horse p.ower was run through them. Rb engines however are not built anything like an old 308. I do have a lot of trust in a standard flywheel for upto 400hp. And as its an rb30 bottom end being built it wont be revving as high as i had to rev the 25 bottom end.

Excellent, if all flywheels are the same i will pull the flywheel off the back of the 25 tonight.

Secondly, snozzle, do u run a chromoly flywheel? If so, what brand and what are they worth?

the can develop cracks after alot of abuse and eventually shatter - im running a twin plate that comes with a chromoly flywheel

nismo/exedy etc etc do lightweight chromoly flywheels

if you baby your car dont worry about it but if your gonna give it some abuse (majority of people on this forum) you should opt for a chromoly flywheel, not worth taking the risk, in my opinion

hahah i read this a day too late. standard flywheel already been balanced up with my crank and balancer. and yes car will be getting the ring smashed out of it. TRACK ONLY :) (plus.... secret, confidenial, shhh shhh, night time, back road, test work

:D )

oh and im guessing the heat scortch marks on my standard flywheel are normal??? i hope so....! If i hear any more 'shattered flywheel' stories im going to sh*t myself and build a scatter plate in my gearbox tunnel lol

    • That looks good, but I think you're going to need much beefier side skirts now.

    • I gotta pull you up on this. It's driving me crazy. A shutter is something that closes, like over a window or in a cmera. The word you want is shudder. That LSD is clearly f**ked. Take it to a diff shop and get it disassembled and examined by an expert. YOu might have plates welded together or something equally crazy.

    • Check the Nistune doco. There are a few assumptions being made here that might not be valid. I will list the things that occur to me: Base map. Base map for what? Base map for Z32? Then the cranking pulse width is probably wrong for an RB25. The extra 500cc of capacity might well be enough to prevent it from catching. Base map for RB25? I don't think you can load one of those into a Z32. You have to just make the settings correct for an RB25 in the Z32 base map. That is either K or the TIM to get the pulsewidth right. Loom. You bought a loom for an RB. And you plugged it into a Z32 ECU. Did you make sure that any iwre differences were swapped. From memory, there's at least a couple. And as per the others, I would suggest making sure that the fuel pressure is correct while cranking and that the injectors are actually flowing as expected. They really must come out and go on the bench, unless you do find that you have messed up as per above points. I would also suggest watching in Nistune to make sure that everything is reading correctly. That the correct binary flags are raised at the right time (like the crank signal), that there's no stupid values in K or TIM. That you have not got mismatched firmware for the ECU and/or a wrong image loaded.
