Hi,

I'm new to the forum and asking for some help identifying if a skyline GTR for sale is a real NISMO. If it is, I plan on buying it and really belonging to the forum then.

I've looked around the forum and found a couple things I could check:

1.) the VIN (should be a BNR32100xxx) series chassis number, and there should be a special plate on the car identifying it as a NISMO edition (with # of 560). And that plate number should also match the xxx digits on the engraved firewall VIN.

2.) the body (ie. no front bumper mesh, has boot lid spoiler, etc.)

3.) possibly the options (normally no A/C, no ABS)

Now there are a couple things that make me suspicious about the car:

1.) It's white, from what I've read, they all were originally gunmetal grey.

2.) The owner says that an R34 engine was swapped in for the original.

So the questions I have are:

1.) Am I missing any other easy to use ways of really identifying this car? Ie. are there any other etched VIN's other than the firewall? I don't like relying on the plates because those can be replaced easily.

2.) Is there a way to determine that this is really an R34 engine? And also to identify the turbos as either R32/R34/NISMO-R32 turbos?

3.) Is it possible to identify this as a N1? Ie is there a chassis series of numbers that corresponds to the N1's?

Thanks for all the help,

max.

Yep, all were Gunmetal. There should be a colour code on the plate with the VIN, this will tell you its original colour. KH2 is Gunmetal, and 326 is Crystal white - all N1's are 326.

2.) The owner says that an R34 engine was swapped in for the original. Possible.

So the questions I have are:

1.) Am I missing any other easy to use ways of really identifying this car? Ie. are there any other etched VIN's other than the firewall? I don't like relying on the plates because those can be replaced easily. There's a thread in the general section where you can post the VIN and have it checked through Nissan Fast, try that as a start.

2.) Is there a way to determine that this is really an R34 engine? And also to identify the turbos as either R32/R34/NISMO-R32 turbos? Turbo's will be hard, but from what i know, R34 RB26's started with the following numbers, RB26-069xxx, RB26-072xxx. I think there's others, but these are the run of the mill R34 RB26 numbers.

3.) Is it possible to identify this as a N1? Ie is there a chassis series of numbers that corresponds to the N1's? Yep all N1's chassis code ends in either ZN (non VSpec N1, ie 91/92 model) or ZY (VSpec N1, ie 93/94)

Thanks for all the help,

max.

Hey mate, see above.

On the colour of the car, my neighbour has a r32 nismo in gunmetal grey but hes actually looking for one in red which I realised is ridiculous but he explained that from buying from the omori factory they do give choices on colours other than the stock colour. For example there is a Z-Tune for sale on GTR-R.com that is in midnight purple that they say is from the factory. Not sure how the process works though

    • Well, fun day was had, I finally found a house that will do me just fine, 1980's brick build, but with full fresh renovations, plus new colour bond fencing all round so puppies are incoming 馃悤, and water tanks for the garden, and it's located in West Goulburn..... @Duncan 馃, so day trips to Wakie to watch cars going Zoom will be on the cards In the end it cost well under my budget and was actually better than alot of the more expensive joints I was looking at, it is in a good area, close enough to the shops, public transport, and the Wollondilly River Weir,  and the great walking paths along the river, but far enough away from town to see minimal traffic The deposit is dropped, the conveyancer is conveyancing and I should get the keys in a week or 2 as the property is currently unoccupied  As with everything I own, I'm doing up a modifications list, as it doesn't have solar, that is first up on the big list, all of the panels and enough batteries to keep the joint warm, or cool, followed by a largish carport out the front, the small list, which will start as soon as I have keys, is some security stuff, like cameras, screens, and the usual "crazy prepper" additions that weird old people like (mouse holes to stick shot guns out of, and the usual man traps that the average person installs for the unsuspecting and unwanted guests 馃ぃ) The gardens front and back are OK, but, not to my standards or liking, so landscaping will be a fun job to start getting into, so when spring is sprung I'll do a heap of planting, lots of natives and vegetables is the plan, the old owners were more "Old English Garden" type, so basically Roses and other weird looking things that are destined for the green waste bin One thing that is staying garden wise is a nice established hedge out the front, it is about 5 foot tall and covers the whole front of the property from prying eyes As for the car hoist, the roof in the garage has some height to it, but, I'll need to get an installer out to see what can be done, width wise may be a issue, but my building inspector will be getting back to me over the next week with his recommendations  Small, but cosy
