Hi guys, looking at purchasing a skyline interstate.

Problem:

gfh.png

Cage firstly (copy paste.. Cusco 6 point roll cage (currently only using 4 point))

Then..

Sard Trigger boost controller

Cusco 1.5 way LSD

Ohlins coil-over suspension (Depends on inspector right?)

Titanium exhaust system (Change to stock?)

6000K HID's (I know these are iffy)

The guy says its 100mm off the ground...

Its also running really wide wheels, so would change to stockies and pump lots of air for some more clearance...

Basically, more hassle than its worth?

Cheers.

Cage - needs engineer's certificate and can only be registered as a 2 seater.

Boost Controller - just hide it

Diff, depends how much it skips

Coilovers, depends on inspector

Exhaust, as long as its got cat, muffler, clears 100mm and under 93? db it's ok

HIDs, again depends on inspector.

Make sure its 100mm WITH your weight in the car, as you actually have to drive over the 100mm height check.

Mm, I could probably source an exhaust as I can't see a titanium one passing lol.

Wouldn't mind the 2 seater thing...

So, its not that bad right?

He said it was imported under low volume imports scheme, so it should have a plate... Also, he imported it himself so I'll assume he has import papers.

Cheers WCC guys

EDIT: It IS complied.

I don't think it's that bad man. Just remove the cage, they are gay anyway, somebody wanting to build a race car would probably pay a good bit of coin for it.

The other things aren't hard to fix, standard suspension is easy to find, standard exhaust is easy to find. Really not a big deal.

For a noob like you......yeah it IS bad. :ermm:

What's soo special about this one to justify interstate ... ?

2 Seater rego gives you other options, like fixed back seats and shit, become legal.

My other Ceffy is going to be registered as a 2 seater with cage.....4 door, 2 seater...work that one out.

For the record, only bolt in cages are legal, but you knew that already right ?

"The car has been fully complied and had the plate

fitted. All import paperwork including import

approval is available, so the car can be

registered without much trouble.

The roll cage is a bolt-in Japanese cage so it can

easily be removed within about 10 minutes."

:ermm:

it depends if the inspector says it can be rego'd or not

if it can't be - the inspector will tell you what needs to be done

personally if i was your inspector i'd tell you to lose the cage. you're not impressing anybody. and i'd make you eat your steering wheel and put the original one back on. you know, the one it's SUPPOSED to have. WITH THE AIRBAG.

(no serioulsy - get rid of the toy and put the airbag back on, you'll need that to pass pits. and rightly so)

Its a 1993, I highly doubt it came with an airbag.

My old 1994 R33 didn't.

Cage is there for a reason... Its an ex track car I believe. Everything was done in Japan.

I would change the wheel though, its ugly...

    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
    • Actually, I'd say all three are the automatic option. Just the different trim levels. The manual would be RSFS, no?
