Hi guys,

I have engine oil leak from under the car and found out that it could be the crank f%&ked....

reason is that the seal has been changed twice withing 3 weeks and it still happens.....

Been told that the crank might be f&%ked or the oil pump.....

anyone has any ideas for any other alternative :D

one mechanic told me that they can re-polish the crank instead of changing it and not to rebuild the engine as it will cost a lot and not good for the engine.....

since the engine is going to be ripped apart, do you guys think its good to get it rebuild as well with forged pistons and stuff ????

Any good places you recommend or might as well get a second hand engine????

PLEASE HEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPP :(

Also, this only happened after my major service.....

could anything has gone wrong while the service???

if you have the $$ go for it with upgrading the parts..but if you dont then leave it...its all depends on your budget...wouldnt trust just random second hand engine...well thats my personal opinion....can be wrong...and who ever you speak to, make sure they have worked on the engine heaps before to ensure the best quality of work....

i agree. i was in the same boat when my bottom end bearing went.

It all depends on how much your willing to spend. my rebuilt with forged bottom end ended up costing over 10g alone.

Take it to a few other places if you can and get them to have a look at it like RE customs or Racepace.

Spoke to Chasers in Ringwood....

They can do the engine rebuild by changing the pistons to Forged CP Racing pistons, Tomei Conrod and ARP head bolt.....

costing me $7000.00............

what you guys think???

if im only doing the crank and oil pump change, will be $4300.00.....

Sounds like its just the oil pump mate. Get it looked at properly before getting too excited about rebuilds.

Just a oil pump seal/replacement will be signifigantly less.

As for a rebuild if you need it, Racepace.

But i highly doubt you need one mate, sounds minor.

hmmm......

might just get that done than i guess......

rebuild is too expensive.......

How many KM has the engine got if its a high motor could also be ring damage and pressurising the sump and blowing the seal out.

Ive seen it happen on cars with high KM and worn rings.

You need to find out if the seal is tearing or if its blowing out is its tearing then it would be from either improper instalaling with a bur on the crank or a worn spot in the crank to cause it to tear the seal.

If its blowing out then the sump is filling up with cylinder pressure.

Only done 100K and just did major service recently.....

seal has been changed 3 times now....

not sure what to do as nothing can be done until the motor is down......

wouldn't it blow out the dip stick first?

it depends mate all engines are different on this toyota engine that it was happening two was blowing out the front seal i changed it 4 times for him second time i pulled the oil pump off cleaned up the crank and put a speedy sleeve on the crank as it did have a wear mark in the crank it was good for about 3-4 weeks then slowly started to leak then will end up pissing out.

THis one had a big sign as not only was it pissing oil out the seal but out the exhaust as well so not only was it burning oil but leaking it as well.

Just for starters give the engine a compression test just to rule out if its down one one piston some times you might get an engine that has got ring or ringland damage that you wont pick up be the ear and its pressurising the sump.

Other then that pull the front off clean up the crank see if its got and marks or burs if so hit it with emmery then a speedy sleeve if it is bad.

Just because it may read 100,000km doesnt mean its done that

Thansk heaps for all the advise guys.....

i will do a compression test on it to see how the engine is......

silly question but the same workshop done the seal 3 times? and had they used only OEM seals? the aftermarket ones are shit and they do leak after a small amout of time.

Both genuine and aftermarket seals were used.

Just found out that the oil could be leaking from Cams and dripping down to the crank seal.....

Will get it checked out.....

might clean the engine myself, put the car up and accelerate while its up.....

will than be able to see the leak where it is coming from......

its totally f**ked....might have spent the same money on tuning and turbo upgrages!!!!

never had this happen before....been told that it was happening before the major service, but i doubt it....only realised after the service that my driveway started to have stains......

never had any oil marks on my driveway, and now, oil marks everywhere.....

    • perhaps i should have mentioned, I plugged the unit in before i handed over to the electronics repair shop to see what damaged had been caused and the unit worked (ac controls, rear demister etc) bar the lights behind the lcd. i would assume that the diode was only to control lighting and didnt harm anything else i got the unit back from the electronics repair shop and all is well (to a point). The lights are back on and ac controls are working. im still paranoid as i beleive the repairer just put in any zener diode he could find and admitted asking chatgpt if its compatible   i do however have another issue... sometimes when i turn the ignition on, the climate control unit now goes through a diagnostics procedure which normally occurs when you disconnect and reconnect but this may be due to the below   to top everything off, and feel free to shoot me as im just about to do it myself anyway, while i was checking the newly repaired board by plugging in the climate control unit bare without the housing, i believe i may have shorted it on the headunit surround. Climate control unit still works but now the keyless entry doesnt work along with the dome light not turning on when you open the door. to add to this tricky situation, when you start the car and remove the key ( i have a turbo timer so car remains on) the keyless entry works. the dome light also works when you switch to the on position. fuses were checked and all ok ive deduced that the short somehow has messed with the smart entry control module as that is what controls the keyless entry and dome light on door opening   you guys wouldnt happen to have any experience with that topic lmao... im only laughing as its all i can do right now my self diagnosed adhd always gets me in a situation as i have no patience and want to get everything done in shortest amount of time as possible often ignoring crucial steps such as disconnecting battery when stuffing around with electronics or even placing a simple rag over the metallic headunit surround when placing a live pcb board on top of it   FML
    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
