Well, umm not really a tuna can, but pretty close - thats my largish canon..

Just thinking of getting an oval XForce rear muffler on my R34GTT to replace the current 5" or something canon which is too loud for me. Have a full 3inch zorst all the way from turbo, 3" high flow cat, 3" oval resonator, then 3.5" pipe (I would rather have this as 3") then the canon.

I would like to have a nice quiet exhaust which is still a little bit louder than stock and gives that awesome sweet RB sound when booted. Definitely a lot less loud then my canon so I'm going for an oval muffler. And it must be FREE FLOWING.

Could anyone please give their opinions on the 3 options I have below, I like the look of the twin tip with the tapered pipes.

Which one would you go for? Please vote or whatever.. Does the twin tip mufflers restrict the 'free flow' a bit?? Please help..

imo the first one looks best, free flowing just means a straight through muffler, easily noticed by looking in the muffler.

i have an xforce canon, i dont know if the canons have the same sound as the ovels but i find the xforce is to deep and drony, not my thing

Problem you have is not just the rear muffler.

The resonator is not helping either, they are near on useless.

To have a nice quiet exhaust, you need TWO mufflers of decent size.

Free flowing is simple enough, just look inside it. If its straight, its free flowing.

just on the offtopic for 1 sec

r31nismoid, im running 1 hotdog in my system with the end canon, its a bit to deep of a exhaust note at the moment and i would like it a touch louder, what would taking the hotdog out do? the hotdog is about 4.5" to 5.5" ??? (its a 3.5" zorst r33)

Probably just increase the drone, tad louder, nothing massively, but noticeable.

Given your exhaust is probably already 94dB+

Go clean your ears out of drive around with the windows down. Its plenty loud enough and enoough to have a nice defect/EPA :)

R31 Nismoid, are you sure that I need to run TWO mufflers to remain quiet? Well the factory muffler is the quietest of the bunch and its only one muffler and one resonator isn't it?

So would the xforce oval mufflers listed above in first message make a nice difference (quieter) compared to a largish canon? I like the twin tip tapered muffler, not sure if it would reduce power mmuch... :)

Larger diameter, freer the flow - the more the noise. Therefore you need mufflers.

So of course the factory pea shooter is going to be much quieter.

Obviously getting rid of the cannon will make a difference, however you might find it's not enough.

So im setting the expectation that you'll need more than just that as honerstly i think you will.

Everyone definition of "quiet" is different, so if you want something that is under say 90dB (which is a legal requirement), 9 outta 10 times you'll need dual muffler setup for 3" exhausts.

If u know a cheap muffler shop in Sydney that would be really helpful...............

You might want to go to a twin 2.5". More muffler surface area per flow area means quieter with good flow.

A truly good muffler 3" muffler with resonance chamber should do the trick for you though. There is 3" straight through, and there is 3"inch appears to be straight through - different things!

NFI mate, my mufflers are custom made to suit (ie, big as possible).

twin tips wont pose a problem, plenty of systems out there with twin tips and perfect flow

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!

    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
