I used Motul Chrono 300V 5w/30 for the first two service intervals

I won a shitload of Mobil 1 0w/40 in a competition so I'm using that for the time being, afaik it's fine & asked a few mechanics who work on 350/370z's say it should be fine with the VQ engine

I guess any fully synthetic with the proper viscosity range :P

it's fairly straight forward to change the oil in these cars so definitely DIY can save you a few bucks

i change every 5000km, so castrol edge - syn 5w30 is fine with me. I've never tracked my car ...so wouldn't know if theres any difference.

used motul chrono and royal purple before and cant honestly say i noticed the difference in 65/35 city highway driving.

look in your service manual for recommended viscosity on the HR engines

Thanks I think I'll try the Motul 5W30 and then switch to the castrol afterwards, problem is I didnt even get a service book. This is my first import and assumed it would be normal.

mine didn't come with a service book either...but every 2nd hand car i buy whether import or locally delivered...i always do the fluids and trans oil straight away....more for peace of mind

When i was getting my v36 comlied i asked the garage to change the oil, they did to a Penrite 0w-40 full synthetic. I wanted them to use Mobil 1 fully syn but they couldn't get it and i lived too far away to buy it myself and drive it down there to give it to them but i will be changing it soon within the next 3k so not too much of an issue. I cant say anything bad about Penrite but I've always been a stickler for Mobil 1 but i also dont use my car on the track just drive to work and back so it never or rarely gets a flogging although highway driving is what i do a bit more of.

    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
