I am in the middle of buying my first Skyline import , a 95 r33 gtst

I have a couple of bucks left over , after I get it resprayed and new feet put on. I don't know a great deal about upgrades and bolt on's for turbo's as this is my first one. I am not after a ten sec monster , but do wish to put some spice in the hood , just want to know how to go about it ie: what order should I put my up's in eg, fc first or exhaust first.

Is it a good idea to go for second hand import parts ? what do I need to look out for when I pick up the car and who does a good insurence deal on these cars ( I am 25 with a good driving record , which I plan to keep )

Well if you got a stock setup up now then really you want to make sure you have something good to bold yr bolton's to. Firstly i start with an good exhaust and intake setup.

Depending on what yr looking at spending maybe 3inch from the turbo back (dump, high flow cat, new tip if needed etc).

As for intake just stick in a high flow panel filter in the stock box, i've got a pod in mine now, it was in there when i bought it. But if your on stock setup theres no point setting yrself up to be defected and loosing power cos of warm air intake.

Leave your Fc until you have a a few things under the bonet for it to take advantage of.

I'm in almost the same situation as you, i'm running stock but a 3 inch exhaust.

Next up on my list is as follows (and keep in mind people will do things differently)...

Cold Air Partition

Boost controller

Power FC (could get it later but i wanna play with it now)

Suspension work (lots to do here).

spark plugs

FMIC (Not fitted until i get my....)

Bigger turbo.

i have probably left things out but u get the drift, dont get caught up in the whizzo BOV's and PFC's until you need to. The ground work is expensive enough.

Most of it is covered above, but I'll add (or recap) what little I can.

Exhaust + Intake (pods need a permit, and a partition to work well), to relieve pressure on the system.

Boost controller. Get a few more precious psi's from your car.

Fuel controller. Usually, when upping the boost, the stock ECU likes to overfuel. An APEXi S-AFC ($600 new, $350 on ebay).

Suspension. Most Jap cars aren't tuned for Australian roads. Consider new springs/shocks if the ones on the car are a bit old, or if not, try a Whiteline handling pack, or even the sports pack if indeed your shocks are screwed.

Those are just the basics. Once your comfortable with the above (say, ~40kW gain?), get yourself a FMIC (front-mount intercooler), your turbo 'high-flowed' (essentially, made larger inside as to flow more air/exhaust); rebuilt (or replaced with a better item), a new ECU (APEXi Power FC, Wolf3d, etc.). Don't neglect brakes, either. Decent pads are first up, but a GT-R brake transplant is advised (or a kit from DBA) once you start getting serious.

Insurance can be tricky. Most companies won't touch you. Try Justcar; you can get an online quote.

Thanks guys that help's alot , been reading heeps and heeps of mags trying to understand this new language , having fun with it though , and getting alot of ideas , I will be doing a few things to this car but allready have the mind ticking over as what to get for my next ( few years and many K's down the road ).

The car does not land in country for another two weeks , allready have it booked in to get resrayed metalic gun metal gray , and a set of 17 or 18' wheels , just to get the outside out of the way before I have fun with the inside .

your getting it resprayed first thing??? and having grubby little mechanics leaning on your nice new paint job everytime you mod (assuming you dont DIY)???? i'd work the insides first, that way any dents or scratches that may happen it the mechanics (it shouldnt i know, but it can. I also hear that body kitted ponels are even easier, but i could be wrong) will get sprayed over when your finished and start work on the outside.

Really this is just my $0.02 but if i wanted the look that much, i'd wait until i'd finished my major works before i made it all shiney, might save doing it twice.

You will be able to purchase and install a 2018.5+ TCU though   TCU purchasing and pricing info! As we near the release of TCU tuning, I am going to answer some questions I get asked often.   What do I need for TCU tuning? At this time, you will need a 2018.5+ TCU to be able to tune. TCU tuning is NOT required. However, the faster your setup, the more it will assist in track and dragy time consistency.   If I’m ECU tuned by (tuner A) can I get my TCU tuned by (Tuner ? Yes, since it’s a different module and a completely separate flash, you can have two different tuners. However, it is highly recommend that you have both tuned by the same tuner. For me, my TCU tuning will directly complement my ECU tuning style and features and running my ECU and another TCU or vice versa MIGHT cause some issues. At this time and for the foreseeable future, I will only be tuning my current ECU tuned customers TCUs.     I have a SYVECS AWD controller. Do I still need it? Yes! The AWD controllers main job is to control your AWD system. However, with TCU tuning, you will no longer need the auto-shift function as that will be done through the TCU. The AWD controller will still be very beneficial for racers looking to maximize traction on the launch.     Shift schedule changes: holding gears longer at lower pedal input as well as max shift rpm changes. Please note, the new ECU race rom coming out will address 90% of the shitty drivability issues these cars have through custom maps from myself and Racebox—as well as others I am sure.   Increase shift speeds: as seen in the videos I’ve been posting, the TCU shifts much faster once tuned.   Increased shift pressures: as also seen in the videos, much firmer full throttle shifts.

    • The fancy pants red shock tower brace is finally incoming from MX5 Mania, getting it shipped from 'Merica has been a long and problematic process, and GWR, the 'Merican supplier will not ship directly to consumers outside of the US, Mania basically had to order a heap of them, the colour choice was silver, or red, and we all know anything red adds 5 killerwasps of dynotorques..... Whilst it does fit over a 2.5, and I've seen a few photos and videos of it being installed and fitting, google also says it might get real close to the FAB9 intake front runner, people in the US says it does fit with the FAB9 intake, except for one person who said it slightly touched.......so there is that.....LOL..... As it seems that I am the first in AU to have this combination of parts there's no local knowledge about fitment, so I'm just a willing guinea pig in this endeavour, I'll cross my fingers and toes and hope for the best In other news, I ordered stuff from China  on the same day I ordered the 23° silicone bend from Victoria, the stuff from China arrived a day ago, the 23° silicone bend is still travelling around Australia thanks to Australia Post, and "may" be here next week
    • Very good news...I contacted Racebox about it last night. My car is a 2016 so remains to be seen if it is compatible, requires a TCU swap, or is impossible.
    • What ECU are you running? This is probably the biggest question. If it's a PowerFC, I'd probably change the ECU and get something newer that will handle the injectors in a nicer way.
