Hey guys, i have been modding my rb25 vl calais for the past 6 months and what turned into a manual conversion ended being a whole rebuild. Manual conversion recently got completed so i sent it to workshop for FMIC, 550cc injectors, greddy plenum, rb25 neo hi-flow turbo, z32 afm, power fc. Turned out the hunk of shit had low compression, 90 in cylinder 3 and i think 120 in cylinder 4 and 5.

I would like to do a rebuild but not a crazy rebuild that will cost me like 10g, i was thinking pistons, rods and make head gasket. I have a little over 4 grand to spend. What should i be looking to get for this.

Car is not a daily driver.

Mate just got my 30/26 in my BT1 built by Red R Racing, highly recommend.

They have done quite a few builds for guys on here, check out NYTSKY's and murrayis threads just to name a couple on the go at the moment. They also built Mercury Motorsport's 1071awhp R34, absolute weapon as well as their 9 second street GTR 'twoogle'.

does the car run? was it running before you took it to the workshop?

i would get a 2nd hand motor from a wreckers or on this forum, will work out heaps cheaper, and wont take long to do,

building a motor sounds all well and good, i have 4g i want pistons 1200 headgasket 300 all the little gaskets etc 100+ bearings 300, machine work 2500 and then the killer is labour, taking it in and out 400 ish, building the motor 1000.

adds up really quickly, trust me

SPOOLIMPORTS.COM.AU SELL GOOD REBUILD KITS.

AS DOES HORSEPOWER IN A BOX. IF U GO TO GOOGLE AND TYPE RB25 REBUILD KITS MANY PAGES WILL COME UP.

4K SHOULD JUST CUT IT...PROBS CLOSER TO 5K

4k won't get you much.

Best to buy a motor from a wrecker (do a compression test first) and throw that in. You wont need the whole forged internals for a highflow rb25 turbo and 550cc injectors, sure forged is better, but it's costly.

Anyone who's actually built a motor in their car will agree.

AGREE 10000%

Standard Internals ftw!

If the 25 is dead than it is the perfect excuse to drop a RB30 back in and slap the 25 head on, a RB30 with a set of cast pistons, new rings and bearings will easy last years and years with a highflow turbo on the side.

    • Yep that's pretty much what I want to see. Racecars that look and sound like the Group A but with newer tech underneath to make them faster and safer. I'm sure there's enough VK-to-VN commodore, E30 BMWs and Foxbody mustangs shells around to make up a decent number of cars with hopefully a couple of sierras, rx7 and R31s in there too.
    • Contact Jessestreeter.com/Skevas Racing/JustJap for a new r34 rb gearbox or go a cd00# conversion. No point playing with unknown condition gearboxes.
    • Such a shame places like Amaroo Park have been redeveloped, smaller tracks always make for good racing. Cheers for sharing @PranK there's some good Lakeside video's too. Its so hard with older the cars as parts are so rare and everything was made for a particular chassis at that point in time. Even the V8 Supercar Blueprint era cars are all different between each chassis within a team as they learnt things and made improvements. The COTF cars between each Chassis builder is different too especially motor/oil systems/intakes. The Group A stuff is worth so much too especially chassis with good history. The only way to do it would be composite panels and similar engine drivelines to the original cars. Ford sierra running Focus RS driveline, Commodore running a short stroke LS/LT or a Falcon with coyote and a H Pattern dog box. Could use a standard ecu across all models with a Torque Map and DBW for parity which is not even used in Supercars currently. Hell a TCM is almost a full chassis car these days and the suspension is not even close to standard style in the front running cars.
    • Dashcams Australia (13/05/25) captured JDMHSE (Vic plate) being a right tosser.
    • Wish someone would start a racing series for Group A replica cars, a bit like Touring Car Masters but for 1985 onwards and not grandpa's falcon and/or Monaro. I know they race in some historic class but that's for original cars, no replicas allowed.
