I didn't say that I dont think you ran a 12.5 and neither do I doubt any of your other claims. I was just trying to add a bit more info to the discussion.

Thats the problem with a written message, the tone of the missive is easily misconstrued.

I do infact give a Z that pulls times like yours a lot of cred. its just like you say though:

Skyline owners are always sceptical about Zed's cause they've been indoctrinated with the gospel according to HPI/Zoom, who go out of their way to bag Zed's

The more fast nissans out there the better.

Ryan.

P.S. just for reference sake my 60' time was 1.864sec and I had over 45L of fuel on board and the tyres (17's) were at street inflation. I also did 4 back to back 13.0XZ times before stopping for the day.

TTZ32,

No worries mate :)

Not sure if my 60' times are average or not but most of my 13.0XZ times were close to, if not, 7,000 rpm launches. It is hard to tell for certain from inside that car with a helmet on if the lack of traction is the clutch or tyres slipping. But observers on the day said 1st and 2nd did have traction problems.

I'm pretty sure my clutch is still a standard one and in my book they are bloody impressive to handle those sort of launches one after another and feel the same every run.

So to answer your question I think there was a bit of both clutch slippage and tyre spin so for the next time I'll have:

new clutch, as little fuel as I can get away with and hopefully either some better rubber of less pressure in the tyres........I need a 12sec time slip :)

I agree.... timeslips speak a thousand words! ...except for mine, they spawn a thousand jokes...:)

As for a 12.87 nearly stock... WOW... but like a lot of other people here, i'll believe it when I see it :)

Holy crap... how did you put the power down to get those et's? Those 60' times are impressive, and terminal speed shows your definanlty making the power. Lets say, for arguments sake, that its all in the 60' (i ran 2.3 60' vs your 2.0), how does the Z do it?

I'm guessing its a combination of:

- auto transmission

- Z's weight distribution

= Z's outright weight (better traction)

- tyre contact patch (i only ran 225s)

The suspension is virtually identical between Z's and 'lines, apart from ride height. I just can't see what gives them the upper hand. Anyone know?

edit: whoops, looked at wrong mph reading

I must Admit they are very good times! and like everyone else here am astonished! however IMMACUL8 who posts on here quite often at the time only had 12psi from a SINGLE turbo exhaust and SAFC and beat a twin turbo 300ZX with quite a few witnesses.

I just have one question I am not doubting anything, but if they have such minimal mods and are able make 12.86 then how come a standard GTST with light mods and single turbo ATE the twin turbo 300ZX. No offence IMMACUL8 but i can't see your GTST doing a 12.5........

What were some of the other skylines times doing that night? did you manage to go up against any at all? I honetsly didn't think that 300ZX where that fast even with TWIN TURBO

hahaha yeh thats my mate:P

he went down to the drags when we all went down (2-3 weeks ago) and pulled a 14.223 which is a damn good time for a COMPLETELY STANDARD 300ZX.....

this was one of the cars that i was basing my theory on - that a lightly modded 300 couldnt pull a 12.5 but obviously i was wrong!

Yeah 14.2 is a little slow, but up the boost to 12psi or so and it should run mid 13's no problems:)

I had traction problems, but took it easy off the line, I have run a 1.9 60' with 225 tyres previously:)

I gotta get some slicks, then you guys will see a Zed run low 12's:D

If I wasn't so tight with coin, there would be a set of bigger intercoolers and some more boost, then maybe an 11 sec pass

BTW, I run a MAX of 14psi boost:)

1.9 60'... do Queensland tracks run down the side of a hill or something?

Reminds me of a (really old) joke: A blonde and a brunette jump off a cliff. Who hits the ground first?

The brunette. Blonde had to stop and ask for directions.

No, i'm not sure how thats relevant to Z's vs 'lines either... perhaps the 'line is the blonde?

Nah...Willowbank is fairly flat I think:)

Whats the quickest Skyline here? there would be a few running 12's surely? I've only seen a couple race, Boostmiester was one, but he was running low 14's I think?

How much would you pay for a real tidy R32 with decent mods? Are they much better or quicker than an S13? (Silly question to ask on a Skyline forum:) )

What are the 4 door Skylines like? are they much heavier than the 2 door?

No, keeping the Zed:) Just thinking of another car, I like the look of the R32's, but I wouldn't want to spend anymore than $15g.

I know FA about Skylines, just doing a bit of research, and you guys might know a bit about them:)

It's gotta be something that will take a real good flogging without crapping

Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
