hey all

just wondering if anyone can help me

i have a slight issue with the 33

because of the heat today i had the a/c running in the car and when i was in car park and my 33 stalled

after a while it started to overheat ( that was after 3hrs of running)

i am mainly worried about it stalling when i am in car parks ...........

I often wonder how many retards will ever learn that a ATMO BOV is a BIG f**kING AIR LEAK in your intake system.

When the car is under a little bit of load with the AC on, it pulls more vacuum, pulls the BOV open, leaks air, and you run as rich as f**k.

You're wondering why you smell fuel. Its the BOV.

There is a reason why they plumb back the factory Mitsubishi BOV. because it has a permanent leak, and the AFM measures this air and expects it to go into the engine. Not out your BOV.

Putting on that BOV would have done absolutely nothing for you, except made you car sound like a wanker, stall, and over fuel. NExt time your coasting to a set of lights at about 3k. Push the clutch in. I bet the taco sinks like a stone and it stalls.

I can guarantee that if you install the factory one back on, your problems will go away. Maybe after you change your already f**ked spark plugs.

Can mods start banning anyone that posts "My car runs like shit, it has a ATMO BOV" threads please.. Sick of the absolute stupidity I read.

My car runs poorly with AC and I run the standard BOV. To say the least though, it doesn't stall but its definitely harder to move off the lights than with the AC off. Ive got new plugs too. I think my AAC might be dirty...

And damn these air cons are shit in 39+ weather lol.

2. did was you said it would go off becasue of the GATE which is plumbed back into the exhaust !!!!

it was a simple question , the bov is only there as a stop becasue its not even hooked up ..... thats right no vacuum line to the BOV

You can't just stop a BoV by not hooking it up. It's held closed by the pressure of the vacuum line - without that, all you have is the very weak spring, which will open up very easily.

No wonder it's running terribly... Please put it back the way it was with a vent-back, hooked up with a vacuum line.

maybe we should ask what the brand and model of the atmo BOV he is using, cause I run a HKS ssqv and have none of these issues, and before you start bagging, the tuner chose to use it over the std one I supplied both were supplied to him...

I have no stalling issues with or without AC on... 21psi of boost @ 290rwkw...

the tuner did say the BOV was very surprising to him and that it held closed very well and didnt leak like most others do, that is why he used it.

maybe only some atmo bovs have given them all a bad name in some regards, not all but some problem areas...

I don't really care what anyone says - The facts are, if you use a ATMO BOV in a Air flow meter application, then its WRONG.

The BOV will be so tight its not doing its job at all, so they are useless. Nissan made them plumb back for a reason. GTRs even.

So don't try and justify an ATMO BOV. It is wrong in airflow metered induction systems.

    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
    • Those comp test results are not hideous. Whether they are accurate or not (ie, when that comp tester says 140 psi, is the real pressure120, 140 or 160?) is unknown to us. The state of the battery used to crank it over is unknown, etc etc. Many people around here would say that the absolute values and the spread are perfectly fine to just add boost and keep going. I personally would be happier with a narrower spread than that, but even the diff between 125 and 145 is not terrible. That one cylinder at 125 though, has probably copped some damage relative to the others. You should inspect the valves seeing as you've got it open. Do you know how to measure installed ring gaps? That, and an inspection of the rings themselves, is how you will determine whether they need to be replaced. If you're not good to do these things, take the block and the pistons and rings to a shop that is, and ask them for the go/no-go on them. Do the bores need a hone at all? If so, you might well be justified in getting some different pistons in order to get away from the ring supply problem. Whether you're happy to spend a lot more money right now, on more gear, rather than less money, but an amount that looks stupid given that you will only get a handful of rings in exchange for that money, is for you to decide.

    • Ok so i would love some advice here please, i purchased an R33 a few months back and its had a few mods done to the engine, its an RB25det running a Master ECU, 1200cc injectors, bigger turbo, oil cooler, oil filter relocation kit, Spool H-beam rods, acl/ross pistons. When i removed the motor from the vehicle (as its getting a respray) i thought i would compression test it and these are the following results. Cylinder 1-145psi, Cylinder 2-143psi, Cylinder 3-125psi, Cylinder 4-145psi, Cylinder 5-140psi, Cylinder 6-135psi this test was done with the motor on the ground and powering up the starter motor. I dropped the sump and found broken oil squirters on cylinder 3,5 and 6. I was told my rings are probably worn so i stripped the motor completely to get a new set of rings for it. The trouble is no one has these rings anywhere and they have to be custom made by Ross over in the states and will cost about $600+$200 delivery. My question is how can i tell if my rings are at fault and if they are still ok and is this price ok for a set of rings?
