What is broken here ? - R32 GTS4

Hi,

I have an R32 GTS4. This pic is of my right-rear sub frame. I think that the bush is broken as a sticky grey liquid is coming out of it.

Can pineapples be used in place of this bush?

Yes the bush is stuffed. That is the silicon gel that is used in a few of the skyline bushes leaking out. The front castor bushes will leak when they need replacing too.

No, pineapples can not be used to replace this bush. I have been told they can help reduce the effects of the stuffed bush, i.e. fit pineapple bush over top of the stuffed subframe bush to lock it into place, but that the best remedy is to replace the bush - of course

That being said you can fit the pineapples($120 set~) without taking the whole subframe off the car which I'm pretty sure you need to do to replace the subframe bushes. A friend of mine replaced his sub-frame bushes in his gts4, he said it was a bit of work.

check out this address, they have subframe bushes. I have tried quite a few places for these bushes and so far have held off doing it because of cost. The price at this place doesnt seem to bad. They may know how much it is to fit them also.

Thanks Stephen,

I checked it out with Unique Autosports who said that the labour would be around $1500 (!?!?!) because the job is a pain. I spoke to a guy named Tim there who said that the job is such a pain that they have only done it five times.

I asked him about the pineapples and he said that is what most people do because of the cost of replacing the bushes.

I also called Advan at Silverwater. They said that they would fit aluminium bushes which they reckon are better for $905. I also asked him about pineapples and he said that they we no good and went on for a little bit about how they split and were a waste of time. He said that I would be better off waiting until I had the money to do the job properly.

This is pretty scary stuff – there is no way that I am paying someone $1000 to replace these bushes. You said that your friend did the job himself (I’m happy to get in and do it myself). When it can time to get the old bushes out did he need to get them welded out or did they come out with a press only? Is it at all possible for your friend to describe the process – I would like to know what I’m getting myself into before I do something dumb.

I think he said something about burning the rubber out, I would think if you had access to a good press that you could do it. I think it is a very big job to do, you have to take out the whole subframe. My friend is a mechanic so that gave him a head start. I will see if he can post a reply.

Maybe try to find someone wrecking an r32 - they'll probably give you the

whole surrounding bit for next to nothing. I sold mine off my r33 for $50

You sold your sub -frame (cradle) for $50?

I guess it sits on the floor of my garage or i have $50 in my hand

I was never going to use it again
