Gday Chrisso here, just bought an R33 GT Skyline coupe, RB25 non turbo, automatic, with a seized motor (stop laughing!)

Dont know much about Skylines except that they can be made to go quite quick.

Been ringing around wreckers searching for a good RB25 but they want a fortune for a used motor, cheapest one was a RB25 Turbo but unsure as to wether the standard auto box would cope?

A mate suggested one of them VL Commodore /Skyline motors dunno what theyre called RB30s maybe? evidently some people put the 2.5 twin cam head on the 3.0 litre engine but Ive been told they go worse with this mod?

Will the VL/ Skyline motor go in easily? bolt up to my auto? plug into my wiring, fuel, and exhaust, ? anything else to look out for?

Do you think I should swap the 2.5 head to the 30 to at least make it look correct.

asking this cos the VL skyline donks are cheaper, any info greatly appreciated.

If its a viable proposition I'll fix it and blow some silver paint over the upper faded surfaces.

...............or alternatively sell it just the way it is.

Any help would be appreciated,

Chrisso.

Honestly. Just fork out for an RB25DET

You could do an RB25/30 hybrid but this can send you broke.

You should be able to pick up an r33 half cut for $4000-$5000 (although I haven't looked at half cuts for a while) and you will have a gearbox and motor and can probably sell some of the other parts to make a bit of money back

Look around for a rough car with good running gear and swap out the parts, be aware that any money you spend you will not get back at resale.

You should be able to find something that has been t/boned or rear ended for a couple of grand.

If your current car is rusty or rough, wreck it and try to get the money you paid for it otherwise you may end up spending alot of money.

Ive seen some nice clean looking 33s for under $5,000.

    • Pads for R32 GTS-t, R32 GT-R non V-Spec (Sumitomo), R33 GTS-t and R34 GT-t are all interchangeable. R34 GT uses a 2x piston caliper, hence it didn't fit.
    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
