i got burnt pretty bad on a stock ECU retune by the only place in SA that retunes stock ECU's. paid 600 for it, now the car runs lean on hot days, uses more fuel, has no mid range punch anymore and has less power up top.

pretty pissed off and they dont believe me when i tell em its rooted. so i got no where and have a car that slow and expensive to run.

well shaun at boost worx will do safc tune for 145. He is a good tuner so that is a thought.

Mike Cash, i know what u are talkin about, and sense i will ahve the same trouble trying to get my money back. If it comes to it i will use the law... Consumer affairs may want to know about this. maybe u should type up a letter from ur lawyer saying u will take them to court. Most people pay up then.

I know how u feel when u spend all the money u save up, and now think that its turned to absolute shit.

If you wanted to go to consumer affairs, or min of fair trading, first you need to get a statement from another shop to say what they would have charged for the work, also, if you didnt get a quote to begin with, you will have nothing.

Unless you have a contract, or quote/estimate, you're pushing shit up hill unfortuneately.

I vote for Shaun at Boostworx too, I am v.happy with his tune and his service, and god knows, I have had alot of different places in Adeliade tune my car:p

So, T-man, are you getting Hiep's SAFC? also, we had a very special sausage for you on the dyno day, just ask Cheeky:)

Well back on topic, im off to the tuners tomorrow again to see if they can fix the problem, if they cant, ill be demanding my money back. Simple as that.

Do u guys think i should take out the spark plugs they put in and give them back so they dont charge me the extra 100? I have a set of Ngks at home doing nuthin.

Hey Bob ;) I'm getting a message from beyond the grave (Crossing Over style :P ) I have a strange feeling that the plugs you run are... NGK copper "V-Power 8" (R5671A-8) Would I be right?

I'd say they are the ones I quoted mate.

I dropped into Tilbrooks late yesterday arvo just to see if Mark maybe had some NGK BRK7EVX's (plugs I usually run - I highly recommend these) as I could only track down 3 in the whole of Adelaide (not an off the shelf plug). He gave me a set of the copper V-Power 8's and said to give them a go, as he uses them in lots of powerful RB's with good results. Even John's motor runs them.

How do you find them on cold mornings? Idle quality? Any fouling due to low initial tip temp?

heheh, well thanks for hijackin my threard everyone

back on topic, matt, u r rite, my afm is maxed out, reads 5.05v from 5500rpm to redline.

what to do...

Of course I'm right! I'm always right :P But seriously... it's a good question mate, what to do indeed!? Have a chat with Nightcrawler (Andy) as he is planning on doing the exact same thing you need... Z32 with Unichip/stock ECU. If it can be done, and who knows? Maybe it can then your laughing. I couldn't be stuffed going down that path, plus Tim (ex RPM owner/boss/tuning guru) gave me an excellent plan B.

I run NGK BKR7E (V-Power), altho they are 1 step hotter than the ones you have, they have not fouled up at all in the last 10,000ks and cold starts are perfect etc. So I would assume the 8s should be ok in most cases.

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
