Tommy G
Hey, I've recently taken my Stagea to a nearby clutch and brake centre in Ringwood to have the 'buzzing' in my transmission checked out. As I feared, the mechanic believes it's a worn input shaft bearing (and maybe a clutch plate issue). He has quoted anywhere north of $1200 to repair. Does this sound reasonable? Has anyone had similar issues and know where the cheapest place to have it repaired around Melbourne would be? I'm guessing the input shaft bearing part would be the same as the R34 GT-T?? Any help would be appreciated. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/355820-stagea-transmission-input-shaft-bearing-replacement-melbourne/ Share on other sites
ironpaw
try RVO in Dandenong? They're recommended on a few other forums... Tommy G
Just been speaking with ABS in Ringwood - price is now $2,000+ as he wasn't aware it was an R34 Neo engine! That's pretty serious money for an annoyance. Think I'll leave it alone a while. What difference does that make Most shops quote approx 6 hrs ($80-100/hr) to remove and replace a clutch for a GTR. No different for a stagea So add any additional time to replace bearings in box etc. While the box is out, probably best replace the clutch and rear main seal on motor and gear box input shaft seal. Mine makes a noise as well. The mechanic (who owns/used to own a Stagea) took it for a spin and also identified the noise. He said they have had good results in the past using a particular high grade transmission oil (not sure of the exact specs - possibly thicker than normal oil?) that apparently minimise the issue. Gearbox should get another 10-20,000kms without a drama he believes. Will be interesting to see how it goes...
