hi all, im spraying an old car soon, and im trying to decide what to do it in.

id like to spray the car in metallic silver, but ive heard metallic can be a bantered to paint with, because the metallic fibers change direction, which can result in a uneven paint???

so its making me want to spray with a solid colour, which i can do, but id really like to do the silver, since the engine bay, jambs etc are silver already.

does anyone have any tips on using metallic paint? how should i spray differently to solid paints?

pretty sure the process is much the same , just remember your final metallic coat you cant sand. So you have to take extra care n your final coat to get it as perfect as possible

The trick I read somewhere was to spray clear on your final metallic coat while its still tacky let it dry, then another coat of clear and then you can sand again..

I ahve used this method to spray my dash (metallic charcoal) and my cam covers (metallic silver) and they have come up pretty sweet.

    • This is a recipe for disaster* Note: Disaster is relative. The thing that often gets lost in threads like this is what is considered acceptable poke and compromise between what one person considers 'good' looks and what someone else does. The quoted specs would sit absurdly outside the guards with the spacers mentioned and need  REALLY thin tyres and a LOT of camber AND rolling the guards to fit. Some people love this. Some people consider this a ruined car. One thing is for certain though, rolling the guards is pretty much mandatory for any 'good' fitment (of either variety). It is often the difference between any fitment remotely close to the guards. "Not to mention the rears were like a mm from hitting the coilovers." I have a question though - This spec is VERY close to what I was planning to buy relative to the inboard suspension - I have an offset measuring tool on the way to confirm it. When you say "like a mm" do you mean literally 1mm? Or 2mm? Cause that's enough clearance for me in the rear :p I actually found the more limiting factor ISNT the coilover but the actual suspension arms. Did you take a look at how close those were?
