Had a guy run up my arse last week and repairers have said its a write off. Being in SA I have to wait a week and a half before the insurance assessor looks at it, and from what I understand if he agrees with the repairers that it's a repairable write off then they'll give me money and I'll go shopping...anyway I also understand you can buy your wreck off of the insurer for a decent price as they typically just take it to auction and get what they can...just wondering what the majority of you would be willing to pay for it from the insurer?

Details are:

93 R33 S1 GTST Auto (Black)

155xxx kms

Rear left quarter damage and probably a little rear right as well due to the impact

Engine fairly stock, just a pod, replaced a few hoses with silicon etc

Just want to have some idea so when the assessor gives me a figure I'll know whether or not to buy it back and sell as is or part it out.

thanks

best just to let it go... insurers want too much for them these days especially if you cant show probable cause (excessive modifications) to show why you want it back, they pay you its their car, and they would rather see it hit auction and fetch a decent price from my experiences....

up to you. they will probably want around the $3,200 mark. maybe less.

but have you got buyers for the parts? work out weather it is feasible for you first. have a scrap car sitting around feasting parts off it, or put the extra cash into the new car?

thanks for the reply and rough figure. Haven't got buyers lined up for heaps of parts, just one possible showing interest for the rb25det but not wanting to pay too much and that's about it. I guess if it was like 10-15% of the insured amount then I'd do it to try and make a few bucks back. They would have a fair idea how much they'd consistently get for something like this though I would assume

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
