Im seriously looking into buying a nistune board for my S2 stagea

Just want to know if anyone has experienced any problems with the boards and what power figures with what mods have been acheived

Also would like to know what the maximum power anyone has got out of one in there stagea and what boost controller is easily compatable with the board?

I just want to know what power figures i should be expecting with full 3inch exhaust, front mount intercooler, nistune board and a boost controller.

There are numerous threads on Nistune already if you take the time to search in either this section or a huge thread in forced induction.

With mods as described you will get the same power everyone else gets which is around 200rwkw +/-10kw.

They are the best option for a streetable S2 Stagea based on price and ease of use.

If you don't want a license for the software, you can get just the board for about $260.

Any boost controller will be fine as it will be completely separate to the ECU (not like AVC-R for example, which hooks up to the PowerFC).

As said above, with your mods, once tuned, probably looking at 200awkw-ish.

I finally got around to putting the NIStune board in my ECU on Friday (currently have a Haltech piggybacked in there) and even though I haven't tuned the NIStune yet, just being able to change the few things I did has made living with the Haltech a lot easier. Soon as I find some time the Haltech is coming out!

Don't get me wrong, the Haltech is a wonderful ECU with lots of fancy features but, for a daily driver (and especially because mine is auto) it is completely wasted. NIStune is by far the best option for a street car.

has anyone tried the "auto-tune" on the nistune?

i think you can go in and set target afr's and it trims it to suit (when its hooked up to a wideband obviously)

I have, and it doesn't work as you think it would. It won't tune a perfect map just by entering the target values. for us, as we already have a base map to run from the auto tune feature is of no use.

From what i can tell It's more for when you dont have a base map and want to get the engine to at least run, at best auto tune only gives you a very rough starting map.

Hey, while your on the topic i was wondering.

Ive currently got a (Piggy Backed) Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 ECU (came with the car) as the car will be mostly a street car but will on the occasion get used for track ect

Is it worth swapping it out & getting something else. ie. nistune or just stick with what is already there?

Bin it and go NIStune, absolutely THE best option for our cars (especially if yours is auto like mine).

Currently, I have a Haltech e11v2 wired in as a piggyback. Nice ECU, lots of wonderful features, but completely overkill for our application.

Fitted my NIStune board last week, now as soon as I can get in for a tune, the Haltech is coming out!

P.S. anyone wanna buy an e11v2 w/ 3-bar map sensor?:P

if your mod's are going to require you to drop the AFM, or you expect to exceed the resolution of the standard AFM then i'd go for standalone management.

i have an emanage ultimate, but only because its what i got with the car.

if i were doing it from scratch i'd get a nistune purely for the legality side. it looks like a stock ecu, so as far as they're concerned it is a stock ecu. just one less thing to worry about.

Well thats good to know, i havent had it on the dyno yet so i dont know what rwkw it is at the moment

Its a C34 S2 RSV Auto. Not sure just how far i want to go but i want to keep it on the street too so its has to stay "kinda' legal at the least...

If it's auto then DEFINITELY go NIStune, no questions.

The reason my Haltech is wired in as a piggyback is that our tiptronic auto boxes do not have a separate Transmission Control Module like earlier autos, it is part of the ECU (same as R34 GTT's), so the stock ECU has to stay there otherwise you will be stuck in 3rd gear (limp mode).

Edit: is yours RWD?? not sure what the go there is, have a look on your ECU for the number and either email Matt at NIStune or post up in the big NIStune thread in the Forced Induction area, he will be able to tell you if your ECU is supported. I don't see why it wouldn't be because R34GTT and C34 s2 RS4S and RS4V are supported.

Nistune should be the only answer for any setup on the street. i don't understand why people think nistune is so limited. it is equally as good (if not better) than a power fc which almost always is in the top 5 recommended aftermarket ecu's, and it beats the hell out of any piggyback solution.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.

    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
