Carbon Fibre Bonnets R34 - Legal Or Not?

hi, currently looking at getting a r34 (time for a toy again!)

couple im looking at have carbon fibre bonnets on them.

curious to know, are they legal here in vic? and how do you stand with them with insurance etc

They're not. Reason being in an accident they will not crumple like the factory hood.

Just hold onto your original one and swap it over if you get sick of the cop attention or have an accident.

I'm guessing you want one for looks. If you actually want the bonnet for weight reduction just spray it the colour of the car

99% of the aftermarket cf bonnets are illegal. There is one Australian company that has met the ADR requirements... Can't remember the name unfortunatly...sorry!!!

Insurance will not cover them. You may also be liable if the bonnet causes personal injury. Eg hit a pedestrian

However, as they do look fantastic <<<<<see avatar...just make sure you have the original in case you get caught.

One one from a Vspec 2 r34 which is carbon and comes with a little vent lol. But doubt most people will pay $3000 for a bonnet

Na not really after looks to be honest. Just a couple of the nice clean ones for sale ATM with low km have carbon fibre bonnets... Which is a pity

I'd be interested to see how Nathan gets away with his Nurspec. I don't think he would skimp on insurance with that thing and it obviously comes stock with the carbon bonnet.

So, I went into local vic roads today and asked. Apparently they are LEGAL. According to them anyways the carbon fibre / fiberglass ones are legal

VicRoads wouldn't know thier arse from their heads.

You can call up 5mins apart, and get a totally different story.

I've done it before. Get them to put it in writing from a VicRoads engineer - THEN its valid.

yeah, ill be getting it in writing, was from the head honcho here at local vicroads.

no doubt if purchase this car im looking @ with the CF bonnet ill be removing it anyways, not a fan of the look, just dont want to get pinged in the mean time

Blitz bodykits in QLD, I'm sure that is their name. ADR compliant fibreglass bonnets.

Yep that is them. Only ones in Aus I believe.
