Looking at a car that's listed as a repairable write off in NSW, repairs look to be fine.

What's the process of registering it in Vic, I do live on the VIC/NSW border so can have things done in NSW if necessary. Does the car need to be "cleared" of it's status in NSW? If so can that be done at any place that provides road worthy or is it more involved than that?

If the repairs arnt up to VIV standard you could be up for some big $$$ to get it there

Yeah doing some reading and I see the VIV requirements. I'm not clear on if the inspection must be carried out in NSW or Vic given the car is listed as a repariable write off in NSW but I'd be wanting to reg it in Vic.

Call to vicroads might be order.

I also asked about purchasing vehicles defected in other states and so long as you get a roadworthy in Vic you are fine, however the problem becomes getting the car into Vic as you can't get an unregistered vehicle permit for a car that's unroadworthy, well you can but the risk is on your head to get pulled over driving an unregistered and unroadworthy vehicle. The permit does not protect you from being fined. The other option is by truck but then some trucking companies want the car to not be defected etc either for insurance.

You need to pay for the VIV and bring in all the receipts for any parts and/or labour used to fix the car. They will want all receipts as they want to make sure the parts aren't stolen. As long as the repairs are done properly you will have no problems. They give you your certification which you take to Vic roads along with the rwc which you get after the VIV then it is normal registration process where all they look at is the VIN and engine number. Then away you go. I wrote off my landcruiser years ago in the bush and the insurance wrote it off so I bought it back, fixed it myself got the VIV, RWC and still have it regestered to this day. It really isn't a big deal at all.

What car are you looking to purchase?

If its older than 15 years it wont require a VIV.

Was looking at a few Matt but all newer than that.

Yeah it's more so getting all the documentation from the seller and not failing the first inspection and having to source the info yourself.

Not sure mate you'd have to consult the RTA, I can only go on what Vicroads told me, he seemed to think I could register both types of cars in Vic without issue so long as they passed VIV/RWC here.

He did note that NSW has some stringent laws but didn't elaborate. I was only asking from a Vic point of view.

The only advice i can offer is if it has airbags and they have gone off, FORGET IT.

A VIV is a nightmare for an import. (If its an import youre wanting to buy)

How about just going to the auctions and looking for a car there?

I'm in no massive rush or anything, was just curious as I'd come across a few cars that I'd trade my Sil for and wanted to know what sort of headaches would be involved.

Just recently bought 2 repairable writeoff in VIC, one was easy to get the VIV on, then off to Vicroads and rego'd

The other was a BMW, went for VIV and they wanted an electrical test done by BMW as it was a flood damaged, cost .... $980....back to VIV for $480 and then off to vicroads...nothing but headaches...

it would pay to call someone who does VIV inspections before you buy, one mistake i made !

    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful         
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
