Hi just curious what sort of values you guys are getting with aftermarket water temperature gauges, just fitted mine and there is a huge variance compared to the factory sensor/power fc. Could you let me know

1.what gauge have you fitted

2.where is the sensor located

3.what temperature range it reaches normal driving

Cheers

Pat

What car would you like these results from?

I have a Race Tech Water Temp Gauge and sensor in my modified RB30 an cruising on a cool/cold tasi day i'll see temps between 60-70 degrees and on a hot day as high as 80 degrees whilst driving aloing. The highest it's ever been is about 85 in traffic on a hot day. The sensor is located in the standard position. Hope this helps.

And how do you know there is a varience between the factory and aftermarket? As far as i know most factory gauges don't have exact points only a scale from cold to hot.

Kurt.

There are two factory sensors one is for the actual factory gauge in the dash which pretty much has a cold medium and hot. The one I'm referring to is the one connecting to the ecu. My aftermarket sensor is sitting in the upper radiator pipe and is reading a lot hotter which doesn't make sense.

1.what gauge have you fitted

2.where is the sensor located

3.what temperature range it reaches normal driving

1) AutoGauge stepper motor one

2) Top radiator hose

3) Ranges I've seen from 72 deg C to 95 deg C depending on outside temperature (had a couple of 40+ deg C days), how much air flow radiator is getting (ie not getting stuck in traffic or behind some snail in a Getz driving <40km/h) & weather I'm using A/C or not (I found that using it tend to increase the temperature while the car is idling/stationary by up to 5 deg C).

EDIT: Also I'm using the stock cooling gear, the radiator has recently being cleaned (& reported to have 0% blockage) & had the top plastic tank & seal replaced.

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
