Steering Wheel Problems?

Hey guys,

im guessing im having a problem with my steering wheel i have no horn, also the airbag light is on

have checked all fuses n connections to the horn so im leaning towards the wheel itself, also have noticed the hicas light comes on when on the freeway.

could it be a loose connection or something? but hesitant a pulling the wheel off incase the airbag goes off.

anyone else have this problem? or no of a fix?

Not too sure about your horn, but to turn off or reset your airbag light, you need to go through this process:

Open drivers side door, but press and hold the little door sensor (so the car think the door is closed), then turn key to ignition without starting the car, then quickly press that door sensor at least 7 times and just hold it. Then just turn car off.

But it does sound like theres something wrong with your steering wheel.

If you've taken a steering wheel off before, you'll notice there's a brass bush sprung against a round wheel, that transmits power (or usually earth) to the horn button, so that the wheel can rotate lock to lock without breaking wires etc.

Problem being that this might be OK for a horn button, but for something like an airbag that needs a guaranteed connection %100 of the time in the event of an accident, not so good. So they use a clock-spring (google it), a continuous piece of wire that can operate with the wheel turning, and incorporate the horn button wiring (usually) into it as well.

But now that the cars 10+ years old, 100,000+km, and has gone through 1000's of turns, they wear out.

Best bet, get it checked by a workshop with a compatible scan tool, and they should be able to determine the fault.

      @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo.       It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
