Considering Force Induction

I am now really considering the GTM HKS version Stage 3 supercharger....which should get me an additional increase in HP between 100 to 140 RWKW and put it closer to 260 to 280 RWKW.

If I can get the totally install at 8K I would be happy.....I am being to slowly work on the price....and remember the HKS superchager will only increase RWKW by 60 to 70 HP.

Should be interesting to see it all installed as it certainly isn't a kit. Are you a fabricator?

You will need to build the engine with forged parts to run more than 5 or 6 psi safely though.

or the greddy japan twin turbo kit ( im not 100% but i think greddy USA also makes one which isnt exactly the same? )

The main point with the japanese kits is that firstly.. there wont be fitment issues from these brands, it will be like OEM. Secondly there wont be reliability issues from these ones.. they will again be like OEM. Sure the USA kits always give more power, but they dont offer the same reliability and fitment that the jap kits can. Especially in regards to fitment issues due to difference between left and right hand drive models.

Price wise the supercharger will be alot cheaper in regards to initial install as you arent paying for new exhaust components etc. and i would imagine require less work to get them fitted. The complete kit with engine management can be had for around $6500 which leaves you with $1500 for install. Probs better off with the pro kit though which is $1000 cheaper as it doesnt include extra injector ( which is fine but not great ) or ECU which your better off getting something that local tuners use.

Kudos still have one 3037 kit left.

There are a few of us installing it so may as well get the same one so you have more support in getting it on!

I have just invested some $$ in getting a jap to english conversion of the manual done. Isnt perfect english but better than most chinese english instructions !

Well the HKS kit for example is a ready to go bolt on kit with no other requirements if it is run as provided. They only run relatively low boost so they will be fine with stock internals and compression. Obviousley once you start increasing boost you will need to upgrade the rest of the engine to cope better with it. It might be a good idea, at the very least though, to check the tune and A/F ratios etc on a dyno once the install has been done if you buy the complete kit or possibly even get it re-tuned. Its probably tuned for local conditions so things may vary with our fuel, temps etc. over here as well as any other mods you may have so better safe than sorry. Also might be worth a re-tune which should give a bit more power because being a bolt on kit, just like OEM engine management, it will have been tuned with some margin for error since each engine is never identical.

Thanks for that, my issue atm is that if i get a kit and blow the head off the engine im gona be up the creek as its my only car lol. Im gona do suspension and gearbox (i have an auto so its slugish in the sifts and needs work) 1st then i might look at the SC kit.

A shift kit for the auto is easy enough if you have the RE5, mine is handling tripple the stock torque. There are a few places I could recommend in Melbourne but I don't know of any up in new south sorry.

How would i find out if i have the RE5? and also what is the RE5 lol (feel like a total noob :P im guesing it is the gearbox)

Its the 5 speed auto most of us have. There are a few valve body kits floating around for them but most good automatics places will have worked on them and made their own parts (for Nissan Patrol rock crawlers.)

Ok is there any way that i can find out what box i have? Or do i have to have it taken apart so i can find out, my V is a 2003 Semi auto 5 speed.

Its the 5 speed auto most of us have. There are a few valve body kits floating around for them but most good automatics places will have worked on them and made their own parts (for Nissan Patrol rock crawlers.)

Yep, I have the Transgo one fitted, upgrading the valve body. I also had major slippage so the clutches were upgraded with a full rebuild and high stall converter. It was the first one they had done like it, they had to laser cut the thinner steel plates to fit a few more clutch plates in. It cost $4000 all up around 2 years ago. Now you can probably get it done for half that.

It should handle a fair bit but I am aiming at 350-400awkw through it at perhaps 1400nm and no-one can tell me if it will let go. There aren't that many performance parts out there yet for the RE5 but they are coming.

    • my current daily - BiTurbo Diesel SQ5 8R with a remap and some light cosmetic mods. Which is sitting in front of my old daily that hasn’t been driven in 7 years now, home to numerous redbacks no doubt. MK4 Golf GTI with a boser hood extension, air ride airbag suspension, factory RHD Xenon’s from the Japanese R32 and stubby electric mirrors (also from Japan) sitting on custom made 18x10” Work Meisters for the golf’s bolt pattern and offset. one day I’ll revive it as a project, pull the engine out, put some forged bits in, chuck a big turbo on it and tune it to somewhere around 250kw and call it a barn find to make millions off YouTube views. Till then, it is a good breeding home for redbacks and the boot is good for storing my Christmas tree for 11 months of the year.
    • Thanks for jumping in guys, suggested @Sbluatx post here for help. Was hoping one of the guys with a RWD stages could confirm if the tank was the same as the AWD one
    • I got another MAF and installed it. Idle misfire was still present. Finally got the tank low enough to refuel and did so. Did a short drive to warm the car up and no issues, pretty short drive. Going to attempt soon to take a longer drive to see. I don't think the MAF fixed it if anything, definitely thinking it was fuel related. As soon as I put fresh fuel in the car felt so much better. But, still need a longer test drive to verify. I'll report back once done.  I'm definitely going to be getting monitoring and tuning parts soon as my next upgrade (decided on the link after talking with my tuner), just been real tight with just purchasing the car and sudden onset of issues. I've also ordered a new exhaust stud kit and gasket to fix that obvious problem. Once it's back up to par I'll start with the goodies
    • Meant it’s 2WD. And my tank is cracked.
