Sapol monitor lots of websites, they do it for different reasons, there was a show on the ABC a fair while ago highlighting kiddie porn chat rooms, firewall hackers and car enthusiast websites, because the propeller heads in sapol can find lots of information on whats happening on the streets (normally illegall stuff) because we post it for the whole world to read.

it gives cops a guide on what to look for inside and ou on an import and they issue defect guides for certain types of cars.

Think about it they have to one step ahead all the time... its there job.

I saw a show on the ABC about imports a fair while ago and how the Kuntstables refer to certain sites as they are a wealth of information becuase we post to the whole world how to do illegal modifications, plus cruises that may take place, they know where and when plus what to look for defect wise thanks to us.

They have to stay one step ahead.. its their job.

cell: obviously we are cautious yet there is no way to ensure that they are not. If i organise a cruise i always check new peoples older posts and stuff like that. If theres a new person that doesnt talk to anyone then shows interest into a cruise, it sounds very suss.

Enrico I know what you are saying, but you get where I am coming from... damn the swines can be smarter then we give them credit for.

I wouldnt be a copper, not for 32 grand a year and all the crap they have to deal with plus the loss of all your firiends...becuase they have cosen the dark side.

It's just so sad that Police have nothing better to do with their time than to defect cars LOL

Just shows how bored they must be.

I know a ex mate who got into the cops , he is a total wanker.

I said to him "why would you want defect someone" , his reply..... "to piss them off" .... how lame, that was his only reason.

I know I am beating my head against a wall here, but if any SAPOL do read the forum then how about you wake up to yourself, don't you realise you are just alienating yourself from the community??... I just dont get it.

My respect for the police diminishes daily nowdays.

The funniest thing is do they really think they are doing the community a service by defecting someone for tinted windows or no tyre placid?

All I can do is shake my head ..... sad , very sad.

I agree with rob

Anyone ever read the side of a police car?

"To Protect AND SERVE the Community"

If SAPOL wanna serve the community of SA better how about doin some real police work?

I mean what do you learn at the accedemy these days 364 days or how to defect a car then 1 day on how to solve a crime and catch criminal's?

No also rob my respect for police diminishes everyday too i mean they wonder why we come at them with such an attitude when they pull us over for no reason!

I've been pulled over for doin stupid shit before and i had no atitude towards the officer, however when i have been pulled over for just driving i try to hold back as much anger as possible!

That is 99% the reason i think SAPOL receive such a hard time from us when they pull us over for no reason. I've been out before on the pissed smashed as a mute and asked a few different police en and women on numerous occasions "when you see an import/skyline do you go after it so you can defect it"?

The answer everytime..... "Unless they have done something wrong i will leave them alone"! Now why can't this be the norm over the entire board?

Sorry what was that did i hear the R word? "REVENUE"

Grow up SA GOV its not just teenagers driving imports its a braod range of everyday people! i saw a guy in a business suit with a lowered 4 door 33 with mags zorst etc. it might be quite possible that is his family car, but any way rant over i just wish the SAPOL and the GOV would wake up to them selve and realise were not going down with out a fight of some sort!

I am sure I will get flamed for this but...

I agree with many points made about overzealous police officers (having been a victim of them myself on several occasions) however the rants regarding police doing "real police work' are ignorant to say the least. Should we have no trafic laws or enforcement? Imagine what would happen. Who do you think chases murderers and drug dealers and blah blah blah? Next time you slag off an entire organisation have a think about what would happen if the police went on strike for a week. And to those slinging the most mud, I wonder what is the first number you call when someone steals your pride and joy, or snoops around your yard in the middle of the night, or robs and assaults you...

Just a thought...

PS. I am not a police officer.

I agree with most of your post, however have you ever had something stolen, been assaulted or stalked? Police responses are 'lack-lustre' to say the least and follow-ups minimal - if at all .... I could not be more jaded with the way the whole organisation works.

Fair point however not relevant to crux of my argument. I am suggesting that regardless of the level of satisfaction of SAPOL service delivery, people consistently whinge about the very people they come running to (police) in situations of personal crisis. Also, limited follow up is not a result of police laziness or apathy, but rather is related to serious levels of understaffing. Also, a major reason some of these so called "minor" offences (minor to all but the victim) have limited follow up is because the police are chasing the serious criminals the like of which forum members consistently suggest the police should do.

I am not undermining the argument forwarded by many a jaded forum member who has been a victim of an unfair cop, as I have been a victim myself, but perhaps consider a little more what you are saying and suggesting when doing the "cool" thing and bagging the people who believe it or not, do sometimes put their lives on the line to protect ALL OF YOU.

Oh and for the record, I have had my skyline vandalised, stolen and been bashed before (never stalked). Cops couldn't help but I for one would rather they were there...

well if cops stops picking on us (eg searching random imports for defects and then they just make something up just to send us to regency) and put that sort of effort in catching crooks, we would be better off.

i believe half the time its just easier to defect someone to show that there working then actually get there hands dirty with crooks

Again, I have conceded this point on both my posts but if people are just going to continue to justify their written attacks instead of actually pondering the logic of what I have said then I have indeed wasted my time. To all you cop bashers out there though I can only say this... I hope you never need a cop as you may have to swallow some of that pride you all seem to have or you may have to have the courage of your convictions and deal with all your problems yourself. Somehow I doubt that will happen...

as much as cops do good, that still doesnt justify them picking on us just for driving imports. if you do something stupid like burnouts or drift and get caught thats fine it is your own fault anyway, but when your cruisin minding your own business and they pull you over just to try and get a defect THATS WRONG

I couldn't sum it up any better VIPER everything aside that is what everyone is bitching about!

We do something wrong and get caught thats all good and fine fair enough but leave us alone when

we are just crusing minding our own business please its just stupid!

Garage Menace, you wouldn't happen to be a police officer or have friends/family who are by any chance?

I agree in part to what a lot of people have said above. Including you GM. But what I don't understand is... if police manning is at a level where prompt follow-up to "minor offences" is not possible (in most cases) then why is it that there's always plenty of time and spare officers to man defect stations all around the streets of Adelaide?

To further justify my point… why is it that at the vast number of defect stations I see in my travels around Adelaide there are always imported and/or modified cars being given a complete going over. Yet in the time spent to do this numerous, old, obviously unroadworthy and down right dangerous clunkers pass right on by without so much as a second glance!? Isn’t it these vehicles that are the ones that should be targeted? I’m not saying that import and/or modified vehicle owners should be totally ignored, but how about a bit of discretion on the part of the police?

My guess is… that defecting modified vehicles generates faaar too much revenue to reduce the time, money and officer numbers currently dedicated to that task.

Eactacly. In sydney where crime is highest, they will not randomly pull over a car to insepct its roadworthyness, however here, they have that power. I think cops in NSW have better things to worry about then BOVs and pod filters etc. I have never had a fine in my skyline, yet been defected way to many times, both times, be picked on my police.

    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
