Hello all.

I am looking to change my front low beam headlights back to xenon (dam halogen compliance). Couple of quick questions before I start this. I have tried finding the information online, but apparenly I am useless at it.

Foreword: Stock standard 1999 r34 25gt-t

What size do xenon globes have to be, and what wattage? I have seen H1 H4 and D2R thrown around in a few threads, and I think 35w is what I want.

Where can I purchase a xenon 6000k conversion kit? Preferably in Perth, but I am ok to buy online and ship.

Is it easy enough to install yourself? On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being my 80 y/o grandma can do it in her spare time, 10 being only one who can rebuild an engine blindfolded can do such a feat with ease)

All help is appreciated! <3

There's definitely a thread about it.... Although the thread was based on a R34 GTR.

Anyway, to answer your questions.

What size do xenon globes have to be, and what wattage? The stock xenon uses D2R bulbs but if your lights had been converted to H1 like mine, I just bought a H1 kit for it, as they have modified my bulb holder hole thingy lol. But some people will say that D2R and H1 will give out different light rays and H1 HID in xenon housing will blind people but I don't think mine is like that. I have mine pointed down to the ground with the lowest setting (a little switch above the little compartment on the right of your steering wheel). As for wattage, 35w is the sensible way to go, it's more than bright enough for low beam. Going higher means the light will get hotter and it might melt your headlights :P or blind everyone on the road.

Where can I purchase a xenon 6000k conversion kit? Anywhere really... They are so popular now, they are everywhere... stores, ebay, forum, everywhere! They range from $50-200 a kit... you get what you pay for..

Is it easy enough to install yourself? I reckon it's a 5, you will need to know what you are doing lol. For me, I taken the front bar off then taken headlights out, coz I thought it was the best and easiest way to do it, and that I also mounted my ballast onto the bottom of the headlight (that way you can say "what HID? what ballast officer? it's Philips crystal vision) lol.. If compliance had taken out your stock ballast, then you should have free holes to mount your new ballast. But pretty much take headlights out, drill a hole into the headlight cap, place bulb in place, plug bulb into ballast, plug stock headlight plug into ballast, put everything back together and BAM! it's done...

Here's some pics from my installation:

It's not illegal is it, the 6000k? Do you have to remove your whole front bumper to get to the lights? Oh drag. Thanks for all your help!!

PS: Not normally a fan of yellow cars, but yours looks sick!

Cheers man :)

HID in a R34 is illegal regardless of whether it's factory or aftermarket or 4300k or 6000k.

Because the HIDs in R34 isn't self-leveling and it doesn't have a jet washer. So you can get done for it.

And yes you do need to take the bumper off to get the lights off.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
