Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has done something similar and has some advice on how much work this will be to fix.

Hit a curb at around 30kmph, hitting the front right first. Blew both front tyres which I replaced. However there are a few bigger issues from this incident:

  • Front right wheel has moved back by ~1/2inch or more (see pic)
  • Steering wheel slightly off center (to the left) whilst driving in a straight line

Here are some pics to show you what I mean:

I took have the wheel to have a closer look - not knowing what I was really looking at, it seems some parts have been moved back slightly - see pics:

Anyone done something like this before? Is this gonna cost me an arm and a leg?

Any insight will be appreciated. :)

I put the back of my Silvia into a gutter once. It basically just bent control arms. I shopped around for second hand parts, rebushed them and it wasn't too expensive. I would advise you to jack your car up, take the wheels off and just have a close-up inspection at what could be bent. Also check where they join the chassis, that there are no tears in the metal.

If you're not confident or can't see anything bent, take it to a pro.

I did some thing similar a few months back, still fixing things.

I pretty much put it sideways, a bit faster than yourself, ~50kms. Sideways into the gutter and over (rather small gutter in bundoora)

so far...

(All right hand side, the side that went into the gutter)

Front & Rear rack and pinion

Front lower control arm

Front baring/hub/knuckle

Rear lower control arm

Rear upper control arm

Rear baring/hub/knuckle

Both rims (were buckled but not shattered)

And there's still more to come, getting it checked by Centerline in thomastown next week hopefully. I'm thinking front left baring if farked as well.

Hope that helps, they're the things you'll need to look at. Just remember, just because it doesn't look bent, doesn't mean it's not, a few mm makes all the difference. And shop around for parts where you can, can make well of $1000 difference where you buy the parts.

When I first bought my car the rear had the same issue .. just the lower control ARM cost between 40 to 80 bux and you can just unbolt the old 1 and bolt straight back on with no need to move suspension or anything els.. you will have to jack your car up a fair bit and have a real good look at the joins mine had a massive crack through the weld and whatever u do DON'T DRIVE it coz it can only cause more damage and its not worth it... :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Had new suspension installed last week on my r33 but just wasnt right when i picked up the car, trying to pull me off the road with every bump & puddle. Took it to my tyre man to see if wheel allignment would fix it, found that my left control arm was bent like a boomerang and that the car shouldnt be driven, oops

Would you agree that the guy who put the suspension in last week should have noticed this?

Have not hit any gutters or anything in the week since i picked the car up, & my tyre man said it wasnt like that last time he had the car which wasnt too long ago, does this sound suspicious to anyone?

Not sure how much the control arm is costing me on monday.

Hey guys,

Had the car at tyre and suspension shop and had to get a pair of Kazama castor rods installed (apparently it was bent) plus wheel alignment etc.

The front right has come back to the center slightly but still not 100% and rubs slightly turning right corners as before (but not as bad).

Forked out 300 for the castor rods, gonna take it somewhere else to see whats up.

    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
