It's understandable vspec, just wanted current member reviews as I've known some workshops may change staff and quality of work can change abruptly. Plus I've made errors in judgement when choosing shops for random stuff before. This info has been handy.

Also http://www.wtfauto.com.au/ is the only contact details I have for them atm.

I'll let ya know the details of the guy doing my cams once it's done, although he specialises in hilux conversions and seems to know a fair amount about the 1uzfe. Can't vouch for his workmanship until I get my car back.

Thanks, I'll add there details today.

I understand the idea behind wanting to get info from members, however take alot of the advice with some level of caution, as there is alot of "a mate of a mate of mine had stuff done". Personally I think you'll find that over half of the tuners in WA won't touch the Emanage, which will reduce the pool straight away.

WTF Auto doesn't have there own dyno, so they do dyno tuning in batches on someone elses dyno, which depending on your level of urgency to get the work done may be a downside. But amongst the Toyota crowd they have a very good reputation.

Well it should run ok on the stock ECU for now so urgency won't be too much issue, however still confused as to why a lot of tuners don't want to tune the emanage, some specifics would be nice but that's not the sort of think I've been able to find after a lot of searching. I'm sure the tuners I've contacted will give me the options though.

Having someone familiar with the particular engine is a big head start in its own. Seems not a lot of people get work done to 1uz's in WA.

Already read up on that, thing is I need ignition control to raise the rev limiter and it needs to be a piggy back for now. I think I've just about read everything on the internet about 1uzfe's and ECU's

Yeah piggy back for auto control as well as keeping it's safeguards, plus paying for an SS4 or the likes on top of a full aftermarket computer is a bit of a stretch considering I only need some fuel trim and a bit of timing to suit cams, if I was going a decent boost I'd look for something better.

Ill pm ya now Corey

Peronsally I think giving Tristan a call, and asking his advice will be the best option

I've updated the Consolidate Workshop thread with his details now

Already emailed him yesterday evening. Don't want to be making phone calls until i've actually got my car back running, but now's a good time to start working on a plan of attack for tuning.

Thing should really start moving once it's tuned for those 4 lumps of billet.

Thanks mate, but none of those ECU's are what I need. I've done a bit more reading and it still looks like the only Piggy back that can raise a factory fuel cut is the EMU, not exactly spoilt for choice huh. And the 1uzfe isn't supported by greddy although a few people have used it with good results.

I guess I'm dreaming thinking there'd be more piggybacks with ignition control.

I still don't fully understand ecu's and how they work etc, but i do have an EMS stinger, and it is awesome. On their site http://fuel-injection.com.au/stinger-4-1-20-21-d.html it talks about ignition control. I had one piggybacked into my 20 combo and will more than likely be using it on my new engine. Ovaboost tuned it no problems at all.

Or you might be best talking to WTF like you have mentioned

Have you spoken to Andy at Hyperdrive? He is an official Greddy dealer, have seen the EMU in his shop. For what it's worth, when I was asking him about ECU's for my car, he told me to steer clear of the EMU... I understand you're possibly quite restricted in your choice of piggy-back for what you want to do, but perhaps a stand-alone ECU would be the best option if no-one wants to touch the EMU? I mean the EMU is not exactly 'cheap', you could find a stand-alone for a few hundred more and it will be better. And in the end, it all comes down to how well it is tuned, if tuners are staying away from it then there's probably a reason for it.

Yep already contacted Tristan, he can tune the EMU but still recommends a full standalone.

If Getting some cams put in wasn't costing me over 5 grand I'd be slightly happier to spend a bit more on management :-|

I know the units are are around the same price for standalone, but all the extra wiring and tuning from scratch will add up quickly. Plus these Auto's need the extra transmission controller unless ya fork out extra for an ECU that can do that as well.

Don't wanna manual it either :-p

5 grand for cams ? WTF (and I don't mean the company)

Seems the overall consensus is full stand-alone, might be best to hold-off the tune till you can afford it

Guess the options are EMU, or drive around on stock ecu for a while and save for a bigger standalone job. Let's hope it idles with those cams in.

Another bonus to the EMU is you can go mafless, apparently the maf is quite a restriction.

That's the approx tally so far :-(, includes the purchase of the cams, springs. All the valve seals, plugs and some hoses and bits n pieces plus labour . Engine needed to come out to get the exhaust side valve springs and seals. Should be getting finished up by next week. *Fingers crossed*

Ouch, that still seems pretty expensive, fingers crossed it was worth the $$$

    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
    • Hi, I have a r32 gtr transmission. Does any of you guys have an idea how much power it will hold with the billet center plate and stock gearset? At what power level and use did yours brake with or without billet plate? Thanks, Oystein Lovik
    • Saw this replica police car based on a Mitsubishi Starion XX parked next to a 'police box' (it's literally a box) in Hirohata, Himeji City in Hyogo prefecture the other day. It's owned by Morii-san who is a local Mitsubishi Starion enthusiast. According to a local radio station blog post, he always wanted to make a police car himself based on ones he saw in his favourite Manga comics.  As it's illegal to modify a car to look like a police car and drive on the road, Morii-san tried many times to get permission from Aboshi police station headquarters nearby. They refused initially by after they got tired of that they granted him permission. However, the car can only be displayed on private property and obviously can't be registered as long as the police livery is present. The car was completed at a cost of 1.5 million yen (US$ 10,000) in addition to the car cost. A location was chosen outside Hirohata Police box where the car can easily been seen from the street. Morii-san has two other Starion road cars, both widebody GSR-VRs.
