I asked because I'm a Cop and we don't usually give out a court attendance notice unless you need to go before the court. By needing to go before the court I mean if you have been in trouble with the law in regards to driving offences (or your mate); and tickets aren't sufficing. Then it's time to go before the court whereby the judge will deal with you. But a simple "Oops I forgot to pay my rego" is not necessary, it's up to the officer really but it's less work for him to give you a ticket and if you don't need to go to court then the magistrate will be a bit "ehhh, why didn't you just get a ticket?"

So basically, your friend must have a bad history in regards to driving.

I know I didn't add anything constructive to the thread, however I was just curious. ;)

Lol, adding even less to the thread, I actually usually find input from rb25 good. It's interesting to get some insight into the regulators of the law.

Eg: what would happen if you were caught driving an unregistered car or speeding or something?

It depends. They both don't really have anything to do with each other really.

I see no reason why unless your traffic record is atrocious, that you wouldn't just receive tickets for those offences. The alternative is you would spend a day in court and probably come out paying less money (from the magistrate).

The offences where you will definitely spend a day in court are drive whilst suspended and drive whilst disqualified. Those offences are charges, so it means you'll have a criminal record if convicted.

I haven't been to any SAU events....and in regards to what you say I'm sure it's nothing too bad. ;)

Sorry, I was a bit unclear. What happens if a cop is pulled over for drifting over the speed limit? Or seemingly harmlessly helping a mate out by driving his car home? Is it different, more lenient because you're probably of good character? Does it influence your work? Or are you unable to comment? lol

Well I'd be treated like any other motorist of course. ;)

edit: If I do get a ticket it's not good though, I will be spoken to about it. The ramifications depending on what I've done (say for example, 10km over); aren't the worst in the world. But the fact is, I should know better hence why I'd get into a bit of trouble at work.

Hey, a bit off topic and I know you can't give too much detail away but I wanted to ask you a question about prohibited vehicles for P platers. I'll set out a scenario as its the best way I can explain it.

Young green P plater is driving a Holden SS, he has de-badged the car and its registered in in mummy or daddy's name. When you scan the rego it obviously shows all the details of the owner and car, when it shows the cars details does it come up with:

1) Prohibited vehicle for P plater

2) or The type of car and you have to use your own knowledge or check a list to see if its prohibited

3) Type of car (make and model) with it also saying V8/supercharger or turbo.

Reason I ask is I have a friend who drove a V35 which is a high powered V6 while he was on his P plates (has full license now). He was pulled over twice while on his P's twice for random breath test (1 Booze stop, other random pull over on a long weekend), They took his license back on both occasions to the car and checked everything out & they didn't pull him up on it. Was he just lucky or is the V35 not in the cop databse.

I'd be stepping over the line if I told you what we could see on our computers. However IIRC the V35 is NOT on the prohibited vehicles list.... I'll have another look when I'm back at work so don't quote me on that. About the SS driver, all you have to do is stop him and look under the bonnet. I've caught people driving de-badged GTT's before. You will fool some Police, perhaps the ones who aren't into cars... but not me!

I had typed out so much more but again I feel as though I'd be stepping over the line. If I ever get my ass to an event I'll speak about it in person perhaps...

Every rego plate is linked to a VIN which is linked to an engine number all through the rta. You've got to assume the police have instant access to this data, including the engine info, ie: a v8. Also as said above, it's going to be luck of the draw if you get pulled over driving a restricted vehicle. Think about the morons pulled over by ^RB25 in their debadged gtt's, only to find out the officer's other car is a gts-t lol.

    • Yea I mean I know it exists, but finding (specifically) female BSPT to male NPT (i.e, to plug a Nissan OEM sensor into a 'standard' NPT port) was truly difficult. I don't think I'll recreate the setup I had in the past unless it's (possibly?) advisable with a stronger T piece made of steel, but who knows if the aluminium threads in the block become the next weak point etc. Given it may need to be redrilled out and something tapped into it, it'll need to be Female BSPT to the something that ends uo coming out of the side of the block.

Had to push it out to get the R33 out, but couldn't push it back in (its a bit uphill,  haven't got around to installing that winch yet, and Kel complains that its "too hard" to help push cars uphill after her double back surgery....kids these days) Hopefully I can get that winch mounted and get her back inside before a pine tree falls on her in the storms coming this week.
