I have just purchased an R32 GTS-T with some mismatched panels, and generally rough paint. This is ok as I want to make it black anway and fit some GTR style kit to it. I've found all the parts and am waiting on delivery, but I am wondering about the painting. What is a good black paint, not a pearl or anything though, I want something good but not super expensive, I am hoping the paint job won't be quite all of my budget and that I will have most of the money left over for a computer. So a good black paint, and maybe a good paint shop that you might recommend that do good work for a good price. I'm not looking to skimp, just trying to not blow my budget, well at least not by too much!

Thanks.

1- is the car black to begin with, as if this is not the case, you will have a mismatched engine bay, door jams etc etc.

2- black paint has many variants, from a standard basecoat to a metallic or pearl etc etc, different blacks may have a red side tone or whatnot but if you wanted you could go for the standard nissan colour (kh3 from memory) as this has either a standard basecoat or metallic from factory. ask at your local paint supplyer or even a crash shop what the difference is in price and whatnot to find out if they carge more for a mettallic or whatnot.

3- A good repair shop depends on where you are (so location might help) but most panel repair shops should do a decent job of fitting a bodykit and etc, but ask around at different shops to get different quotes and different opinions as everyone does it slightly differently.

Hope this helps in your search to get your car up to speck but to also help us in helping you chose the right places to go and etc.

=D

The car isn't black, it's gun metal, I had a look at the engine bay and I think the difference is not that bad. I am in Western Sydney, so basically anywhere from Parramatta to up the lower mountains would be fine if anyone knows a good place they would recommend. Thanks for the advice, will call some paintshops and just get some quotes on the actual paint itself and see, a metallic would be nice, but gotta check the $$.

Cheers.

EDIT: Oh also need to get all the rubber seals replaced as they are shot, does anyone sell these that are not genuine Nissan? I imagine the Nissan ones cost a fortune.

What is your budget roughly?

Also if you find somewhere that does aftermarket rubber seals let me know...

If you have to end up going genuine, which you probably will (I have looked for aftermarket stuff with no luck), that is very likely to blow your budget as from memory all the rubber seals add up to over $2000 alone!

4K wont cover a decent spray job, especially not a colour change... you may find cheaper but it normally isnt a decent job....

4K wont cover spray, computer, rubbers, choose one....

if you get a computer, why, do you have other mods that need it to be supported?

if you get spray save up more first...

if you get rubbers thats atleast $1500 Id be guessing...

your budget is too small for what you want...

Yep am starting to see how pricey it's all getting, but that's ok, will have to choose and then get another budget to go do some stuff after that . As for the rubbers, there has got to be a way to get those cheaper than $1500, sure geniune stuff probably looks all pretty , for a piece of rubber, that's just crazy! So some hunting will have to happen it seems, patience patience :)

What rubbers are worn?

Front & rear windscreens can generally be done with cheaper generic seals but side window seals & trim would have to be genuine unless you're willing to look at good condition secondhand items...

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
