Tangles
I reckon they could incorprate the helmet "hard cover" to clip down around the neck, and do away with straps for good. Currently helmets finish around your lower jaw line / chin. Could be redesigned so an adjustable hardcover acts like a trap-door around the neck instead (if you can visualize it)? As has been shown once a helmet comes off in an accident its a very bad sign, almost certainly game-over for the average Joe. Dohmar
Also, on that point, has anyone seen all the rubber lining through guard rails in the hills? Someone got decapitated not long ago coming off a bike by having his helmet jammed in between the rail and ground. Nasty. In the south african gp of 1977, Tom Pryce hit a fire marshall that had ran across the road (yes, in front of Formula one cars... genius)... the fire extinguisher the marshall was carrying hit Pryce in the head and the force of it nearly decapitated him with the strap... more info here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Pryce#Death -D Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/380994-moto-gp/page/2/#findComment-6078135 Share on other sites
MatthewT85
a hans device wont really work though. as a rider compared to a driver you need to look left, right, up down and back, not like a car that is mostly one direction and use the mirrors. it was a freak accident and the fact his helmet came off shows how freakish and severe the crash was. helmets are not able to come off that easy. A tension release on a strap i doubt would pobably have worked in this instance stopping the head getting reaffed bac and twisted, but most likey to come off in 99% of all other crahses whilst the rider is still sliding on kangaroo hide at 100mph or come off Sic's head midway through the collision with collin allowing valentino to finish him off (not far from what happened with a tightly strapped helmet really... i'm just waiting for "calls to ban" as a typical dogooder overreaction to the accident yeah youre right i thought about it after i wrote it, if it was too loose to allow head movement it would defeat the purpose...
