Iron Chef,

What are the chances of finding an absolute mint condition 1991 + two tone champagne gold/grey nissan Silvia s13 K's in Japan?

One in the same if not better condition than mine before the accident

Mine was non-accident and perfectly straight, and log books etc.

Would it be impossible almost?

As a side note:

I would effing love to see an s15 in the paint scheme posted above..

Instant gentleman kit, with the white n champagne two tone...

Oldschool 80s throwback vibe, 4 stud conversion with 15 inch work/ ssr rims...

God I'd love to see that..!!

lol the thread title had me worried there for a second...

They do exist, but they fall well into the realm of collectible classics these days, so you'd need to have very deep pockets to beat anyone local in Japan. Almost certainly more than it would cost to get one here. Look around for something tidy in Oz would be your best bet.

Rowan, your idea reminded me of this car...

So basically when I crashed my car.....I destroyed a collectible classic?

As bad I was already feeling...I now feel about 100 x more bad. Wow.....=(.

Omg shut up la bomba..!!

Go fix it if you care so much.

Kristian - wow that's exactly what I was talking about!!!!

It seems you can acquire a mint one from Japan for 10-15k. Not a bad price.

What are the differences between the 180sx type x and the s13 silvia? I heard the s13 silvia has a much stiffer rear end and thats about it?

Think $15K, not $10K ;)

If you're not trolling, probably best you Google the differences between the two ;)

I'm not trolling Chef, I'm using this account to try and sort out the accident and what I will do for a car for the future etc.

I just googled the differences. People are saying the rear parcel shelf and boof makes the rear end of the Silvia stiffer? However this seems like BS. Other websites are saying theres no differences (aside from aesthetics obviously).

I think for the moment, the best thing to I can do will just be to hop on the public transport until I get my full licence and I'll save up money in the meantime. I will definately be in contact with you to import a car Iron Chef...not now but once I talk to my mechanic to see what he thinks about the car I should buy and once I get the money.

The main thing I want when buying will be everything to be straight, no accidents etc. Wouldnt care if the car had a blown engine as long as the chassis was perfectly straight and in factory condition.

I'm turned off the s15 because it looks too mean and would probably feel too "new and advanced". I prefer "basic and raw" like the S13 Silvia.

At the moment I have $5000 saved up. I work part time as a Cadet Quantity Surveyor 2 days a week so I'm on $240 a week which means I'll have approx $15,000 saved by October.

Before you just decide to buy any car go test drive a few

Just assuming the s15 will feel too new is a stupid reason to avoid buying one

Yeah, good point actually.

In that case I'll have to wait till I can get my full licence in October so I can test drive some turbo vechiles.

I've always liked the Mazda Rx-7 FD3S but the fuel consumption is apparently astronomical...so I couldn't afford to run, let alone maintain one.

I like the lighter FR cars which pretty much limits me to S13 and S15 now that the rx7 has been ruled out as well as the S14 (Body looks too rounded for my liking, it reminds me of a capsule),

News flash:

Turbos are gay.

The novelty wears off after a while. I don't have one of those PSSSSHHHFFFFTTTTT blow off valves on my car.

Infact I had an apexi pod filter, but I took even THAT off because it made the factory bov a bit loud, I hate the idea that someone could one day see my car n think "his car sounds a bit like that wrx we saw with the driver that has his hat on backwards"

Turbos are gay.

My advice would be to get a cheap little civic to learn how to drive before you jump into a turbo FR. Seeing how you manage to write off your NA s13...

And with your pay, i'm not sure how you can afford to maintain any turbo cars tbh...

While I love S14's series 2's only

The price people want for these your better off with an s15

I paid $11900 for my s14 another $4k and I could have got an s15

But to be honest idtrade my s15 for a decent s14 I love the look of them with the stock side skirts and front bar and the JDM wing

    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
