Hi all

I am new to turbo cars and mine is 3 days away, It has a turbo timer in it already and i was wondering how you go about stopping for fuel. I cant imagine everybody waiting at the pump for 5 mins before they turn the motor off, But then i cant imagine everybody pumping fuel in while the motors still running.

I know this must sound quite stupid but any help would be much appricated.

Lee

Yo Lee,

3/4's of the time, the TT isn't neccassary. Basically, I am on my 4th Turbo car and only 2 have had TT's because i dont think they are needed (in fact - i am selling an HKS unit atm).

The reason for TT's is to keep supplying your turbo with oil when its cooling down... if you just take it easy for the last 5 - 10mins of your drive (ie, hardly coming on boost) then you wont need to use the TT and you can turn the car off normally.

Hope this helps - otherwise throw another q at me - i am hella bored at work. :)

If you thrash the car on high boost then switch the engine off the turbo is still red hot. The oil sitting in the turbo is heated beyond it's 'safe' range and it's properties may change. Then as the turbo cools from red hot to ambient the impurities in the oil in the turbo may solidify or condensation may build up at that point. Either way it's best to let the oil flow thru and cool the turbo slowly. That's my understanding...not very deep or technical I know! :)

This makes me wanna take off my turbo timer...

what happens was coz I got an alarm system which will unlock my doors when I turn engine off & remove the key. If turbo timer is on countdown n engine is running, if I remove the key, the alarm won't detect it. If I press "arm" button, my system will go to valet mode, which will disable auto-arming feature for the purpose of valet parking at hotels. I can't even use my remote door unlock/lock coz pressing arm/disarm only goes from valet mode on/off. If I lock the door using the key and walk off the car... when my turbo timer finish its job, it will turn off the engine, and guess what the result is... my car will be unlocked.... anyone can just open the door, grab anything from the car and walk away maybe even with the car.......

And I've got the apexi pen style turbo timer.... :)
