Thanks Chris32.

I have a set of 17x7's with 235/45 SO3's on at home, more than welcome if you want to come up and put them on and go for a drive to see what you think

They are have about 65% rubber left on them, and have a bit of cmaber wear etc, but they would give you a good judge on how they handle etc

Better than spending $500+ dollars and finding out they are not what you like etc

Chris

I might have to take you up on that:) what sort of pressure did you run in the Azenis? I just did some searching and read ( a couple of times) that you need to run the right pressure or the girp is not so spectacular?

Also, do the S03s have stiff sidewalls? I want these to be pretty firm, to try and counter the understeer I have at the moment?

If the Azenis a really crap i could always put them on the back and kill them:)

I tried a lot of pressures in the Azenis, they seemed to work best at around 30-32psi. Anymore and they would tend to get a bit skatey under brakes. Grip was pretty good, but on the road they didn't have chance to get decent temperature into them, on the track once they were hot, they gripped well. One thing I didn't mention is that they were extremley noisy due to the tread pattern

The SO3's have a really stiff sidewalls, probably the stiffest that I have seen other than RE540/RE55S when they where of the rim. Both Freebaggin and myslelf had a good look at this when we were looking for tyres, and they have really strong sidewalls. I think that is why they were a good match for the RE55S's on the back

Let me know if you want to give mine a try, at least you will be able to compare them with what you have now

Well, I just found some RE55S in the new hard(er) compound - 235/45/17, $351 fitted, so it looks like I will go with those.  I'm excited:D

thanks for your help Chris.

Awesome!, thats a heaps good price Steve, can I ask where you are getting them from? might get another set for the back of mine :( Apparently there was some type of replacemnt deal going on with the first series of RE55S due to the wrong compound, might see if they will swap mine

Make sure they are hard compound, and you'll be laughing

Bye Bye understeer :(

Chris

Magill Bridgestone -  8332 0800, ask for Kim.  Only dealer in Adelaide (so I was told).

First thing he said when I asked if he sold them was 'we have them in stock and they are the new hard compound':)

Cool, will give him a call

Cheers, Chris

Good to hear you got them Steve

Make sure they are nice and warm before you give them a bit, otherwise they might carve up a little bit if the rubber isn't up to temp

Would be similar to the rears you have - when you hear the rocks/sticks/loose road flicking up all over your car, they are up to tmep :D

Enjoy them, I have contacted Bridgetsone to see if they will offer any sort of replacemet and or huge discount as they sold me the really soft ones - will wait and see what comes of it

Chris

excuse my laziness, but what's the difference between the trampio tpg's and the r1r's ?

i've had my r1r's for 16,000km's and they are only just starting to get a little worn now. eg. i notice more wheel spin in 1st gear for instance. i have had 2 trackdays in them.

they come highly recommended. i had them fitted and balanced at an average of $300 a corner. im running 255x35 and 235x45.

id like to compare them to the azenis, however i think the azenis might be more of an rspec tyre than the r1r's....hence more grip, less wear....

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
