I am trying to adjust the timing on my 97 C34 with the s2 RB25DET in it.

I was having detonation so I checked the timing and it was on the crank mark furthest to the right when looking at it from the front. Came like this from japan, ran great, quik and smooth with a bit of det only on WOT runs. I loosened the CAS and set it to the 4th mark from the left(15 deg). Car hesitates under medium to heavy throttle, no det sounds and also hesitates when cold at parking lot speeds.

I am still unsure which tps plug to unplug, when I unplug the brown lower one, the car just dies. So I set it with the grey upper plug unplugged, but I hear thats the kickdown, so its probly made no difference.

So which plug do I use to get base idle?

I use the loop wire hanging out of the loom at the rear of the rocker cover,I don`t disconnect anything and also set the timing at 15 degrees, works fine for me, depends on what type of timing light that you have, what fuel are you using, what boost , all variables that can effect timing/performance etc

Ok, I did try setting it without unplugging things, but the computer advances it or something and the marks go away. I downloaded the r33 and r34 fsm's and they both say unplug the tps brown plug, but my car dies with it unplugged, but my car has had issues with the idle swinging around when I first start it, but it always stays running. I figure I'm gunna give the Idle air valve a good cleaning and try unplugging the tps again.

I'll be running 94 octane which is close to 98 RON, but I wanna be safe for 91 incase I venture down to the states.

You should have 3 plugs in front of your inlet manifold disconnect the top black one then use a good timing light and run it off the white wire at the back of your rocker covers. Found a little shortcut by putting the timing light half on the wire you can get a accurate base timing readout instead of running it off cylinder 1.

Ok, cleaned the Idle control valve, got some good chunkies out of there, now I can unplug the tps without it stalling and set the timing, so its set properly now at 15. Hopefully solves my detonation issues.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
