Hey guys im getting some funny noises from my gearbox (R33). I can only hear it when the car is warm, when idiling in neutral with the clutch pedal out there is a squeek coming from the box but it goes away when i push the clutch in. Any ideas?

Thrust bearing. Very very common.

It's not a huge problem. It's not going to force you to pull the gearbox. It's not going to force you to rebuild the gearbox. It will get worse over time. It might fail. It would be better to replace it than leave it for a long time. If you are pulling the gearbox to rebuild it then it is trivial to replace the throwout bearing. If you are not going to pull the gearbox to rebuild it, then pulling the gearbox to replace the throwout will add some cost and effort, but it's not going to bankrupt you.

Yeh as said, replace it if you're going to have the box out anyway. It's a $60 or so part, so not like it's a massive problem. But mine has been making the whirring noise for a good 2 years now. It hasn't got any worse in that time, so I haven't bothered pulling it out. If it starts to get louder then I'll pull the box and replace it.
