Just to clarify things in my mind.... I stuck on the shim i bought to the back of the pad, then put the 2 metal backing plates ontop of them.

So i have pad - plastic stickon shim - full metal plate - half metal plate and the side clip that clips everything together :D

Sort of doubting if i need double metal plates.

I go pretty easy on my brakes no heavy braking or anything... Thinking of taking them out, giving them a good rub / sand... put them back in and give them a goooood bed in session, but its very hard to find anywhere to do it lol.

Ruxis - Won't be taking my stock skyline to the track ! hahaha

75coupe - Keep me posted how those shims work, i bought the HPX only because i heard they where quiet + no dust =(

Cheers

Colin

Still getting used to the car, first manual car i've driven! Maybe in a years time when I know everything is running fine.

Back to the brakes.

Is it essential to have my adhesive shim + the 2 metal backing plates on?

Would removing the half backing plate (the one on the bottom right in the image) help with reducing noise, since its just plastic on one piece of metal?

Note: The image was taken just before i put the adhesive shim on.

Just rung GSLRallysports where I bought the pads / shims. He recommended I just stick the adhesive on the back of my brake pads and remove the 2 metal backing plates / shims (not sure what they are called but they are the OEM ones that are in the picture above).

Does this sound right? My pistons will be pressing directly onto the adhesive which is cardboard thin onto the pads.

I guess there's nothing to lose in trying? Should still be able to stop since the piston is pushing in :P

Would like to get some advice from you guys before i play with my brakes....

Cheers

Yep do it GSL know brakes, the replacement shkms are to replace the oem ones, the std shkms were originally covered in a thin rubber coating but after all these years its been heated and cracked off

Took apart everything, couldn't find any copper grease anyway and autobahn gave me some Bendix lubricant satchets and smashed it on and between the backing plates i have (still have the plastic adhesive on) BRAKES ARE QUIET!

I sanded down my brakes a bit, do i need to bed them in again?

Won't let me edit above post =(

Tried bedding in the brakes. First one or two stops where ok, but from there on the brakes where screaming when i did 80-10. Drove around for about 5 mins after i bedded them in to cool down. On the way home seemed pretty good with light braking.

Anyone know if they will stay quiet and only scream when they are very hot?

Hey guys have a question for my exhaust i'm looking into.

Looking to get a catback system, cat, dump pipe (JJR stainless steel dump from Just jap) seperately.

Anyone heard of the brand VENOM before? My mate recommended the brand but he drives an XR5 lol.

Any recommendations for cats / dump pipes would be awesome guys!

Cheers

hmm, not sure. Depends where you get parts from - 2nd hand or new? new will cost a pretty penny, and 2nd hand, well, the panels and headlight can be gotten fairly cheaply, but it'd depend on if there's any reo bar damage. my massive accident was quoted up at just under 8k damage - won't post photos here, this was ~ 4.5 years ago. yours is considerably better than mine was!

if i had to guess on prices based on what i've seen:

bonnet 300

headlight 250ish

guard 200?

grille 50-100

not sure about painting it though!

I don't get to choose what parts i get through insurance do i?

Thought it was just replacing whatever i had before?

Or do i get to pick and choose :D

EDIT- Reo is fine, but they went into my radiator support rail... If thats what its called haha

I ended up getting a different front bar - I paid for it, and it came off my premium, so essentially they paid for it (it was cheaper than a new front bar!). To be honest it's best to have a chat to your insurance company, see if they're ok with you sourcing parts, and go from there. If they are, then start digging through the FS section or something, but if they want to do it all themselves, well, good on them.

    • Ok thanks..that was my second question if i can somehow bypass this even with Nistune(that is all i have right now...aparat from stock ECU. So with some aftemarket it can by "bypassed" or make it work?  I know there is Link or Haltech (mainly used). We have ECUmaster here so i will gather some info about it.
    • Yes. You will need to get the original boost sensor and wire it in. That is.... if you plan to use a stock ECU - even a Nistuned ECU. The Nissan ECU will not operate correctly without it connected. And yes, it will do annoying stuff like you are experiencing. You will almost certainly be better off with some aftermarket ECU, than trying to hunt down rare sensors.
    • Ok so ABS/TCS is "not" the problem. Yeah i know now about the ABS with Nistune(i told that to the Nistune guy) but iam not 100% why or why i dont have ABS. ABS cube is in the engine (always has been) but i had braked couple of times rly hard and brakes just locked and scream. Does all Skylines have ABS cube? That boost sensor https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/367633-wtb-r34-gtt-turbo-pressure-sensor-pics-inside/ Is this it? I need to ask but i have a picture of engine bay and i do not see that (100% is not in that place) If i do not have this the car can do what mine is?(cutting around 4000 rpm) Here is the pic of my engine bay(only one i have) BUT i think i dont have that cuz loom was used from my RB20DE NEO and i know (obviously) that it does not have boost control or any wire to that...) so maybe that is the problem? (i dont know for 100% if that car where the engine is from had that)...but i dont have the loom from that
    • I'm with you here. It's either loom has an issue, OR, injectors are not functioning properly. It could even be they're just constantly dribbling, hence the wet, but not firing.
    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
