Not really this is my fourth one so i'm pretty used to it by now.

The only difference is that the turn signals and windshield wipers are reversed and I can't go through and drive-thru's. LOL!

Today was an awesome day!!!

Got to hang out and lend a hand at ApexI USA today and work on the ApexI SC430, Did alittle body work and lend a hand where it was needed and basically just shoot the shit.

Even got to pick up some stuff for my car but that will be later...

Here are a few pics of the ApexI SC430 and the work!

I did the bumper, my small contribution... haha!

The engine set up my friends did from scratch

No real hands on work on my car but it was still an enjoyable and exciting car day!! :)

These are the type of days that add to the collection of stories that one day I will tell my grandchildren and they won't believe me... that is my goal in life....

So I finally took some time yesterday to clean up my VLSD that I got with the 4.08/4.10 gears... I hear that it has both... but It's out of a N/A 300zx with 5 bolt axles.

I'm going to use this because I daily drive my Ceffy as of now and the gas is killing me.

The Cefiro's 4.33 gearing although fun, sucks up gas and I am shifting way too early.

Still pretty interesting just opening this unit up and inspecting everything, seems pretty clean but the oil has been in there from factory I think!

Now I gotta pull the unit out of my car and change the covers and such. gonna do that this weekend. Got some redline oil for the unit.

This is just a temporary unit cause I have a Nismo 2way that i'm picking up next time I go back down to SD. It's just nice to have an option to swap out.

On another note, did some research and found another way that I might be able to fix my windows by using the relays from a 95 maxima.

The relay is a Taiko tx2-8xs

Pick a part listed that they had a car in there lot and wouldn't you know it, when i get there all the window switches are gone!!!

but I was able to find a few power window amp that might fix my rear window problem. so I'm gonna try that out tonight.

It was also nice just to pick up some extra fuses and bolts to replenish my spare bolts bin.

Also found a OEM Nissan cup holder unit. Too bad won't fit with my Navi unit...

Also got some ac lines just to see if they fit my compressor, it was nice cause all i paid for was the cup holder, everything else was free!!! LOL!

It's nice to bring a bag with a whole bunch of shit in it!!!

It worked!!

I got one of the windows to work with the power amp from the Altima!

It actually was from the front window amp from a 94 Altima, I think, but it worked!

Plug and play also!

The junkyard picking paid off big time!

So i guess you guys can add this part to your reference list of swap parts!

Altima unit

old unit and the Altima brackets and pig tail for reference in-case some needs this

Also look what came in yesterday afternoon when I got home... C's Short shifter for the RB!

I always loved these and this was on my list, came up on the opportunity to get this and jumped on it!

Can't wait to install it tonight!

484586_10151146368924236_781985153_n.jpg

I'm still at the stage to put the car back to stock-ish condition first before I do the modification part but it's nice to get the little things when I can.

I just want to make sure I know I have a reliable base before I go ahead and start messing with everything but this journey so far has been interesting.

More play time with her this weekend!

Update time******

Been really busy with life but alot of progress has been happening the last couple of weeks!

Since the last time I updated this thread a few things have been done so I'm just going to list them.

Fixes:

All windows and switches have been fixed and working!!!!!! <-- big thing to find all the parts off yahoo Japan!

OEM Nissan Window visors

OEM sunshades and clips

Identified wiring from conversion and cleaned it up

exhaust leaks

vaccum leaks

blown speakers all replaced with Alpine type R

Upgrades:

Apexi N1 Pro Coilovers

Nismo A31 rear strut tower bar

ARP exhaust bolts

New turbo elbow

SS turbo lines

SS brake lines

350 track rotors and adapters

Koyo radiator

Samco hoses

New battery Termials

New rims (different setups)

New hood dampers!! (so nice to have!!)

Nismo 2 way LSD an extra 4.3 gear

80mm Apexi Exhaust Valve Controller (great upgrade!)

C's short shifter / ebay version as well to try them both... pending testing... Moded the ebay version...

Currently en route from Japan:

New passenger rear door (so I dont' have to do major bondo and metal work)

Speedo Cable to finally fix my speedometer, though I am going to try to make a mod with the RB25 speed sensor and see if I can do a NX1600 conversion... If I have time, since I have the parts...

I'm also building a RB30DETT on the side for this car but that is a slow side project, that is why I'm not doing much go fast parts on this car, just focusing on cooling, suspension and getting the body right.

Not building her for anything in paticular just the best that she can be, the ultimate Cefiro daily, a car that when you see it you just say that it's nice and hopefully that you respect it and the time I put in to it.

I want to engine to have a linear power band and the suspension to be set up right so I'm just playing around with different options.

i'm also going to be fabricating a power brace next week with some help from a fellow member.

I bought a Nismo S13 power brace to try and it was just alittle too short.

So he offered to make one from scratch using my exsiting pieces.

Also I'm going to be making a strut tower bar too so that should be interesting.

The interesting thing with these cars is that they are a combination of a S13 & R32 chassis so you have to either guess which parts fit of mix and match. Like the chassis post from a S13 with a R32 bar makes a strut tower bar for a A31 because of the RB engine.

But thats kinda part of the fun with this car.

It's all about the hunt for parts!

Well now for the pictures!

Well thats about it for now.. I'm still working on her and waiting for my rims to get done.

As time goes on I'll be updating more but I have my eye on the rims I want and before I start on the body work.

I want my rims here so I can make sure that everything fits just right and it looks good.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks, it's been alot of work, especially since I'm doing my other bike as well and refinishing my rims at the same time.

You can check that build out here if you like: http://www.zx-10r.net/forum/showthread.php?t=113464

Well I know I said that I was going to stay away from 19's but I tried on a set of 19' Advan RS-D that I have for sale.

Mainly to confirm for a customer that they clear Z brakes and I gotta say I kinda feel in love with them when I did...

But I'm sticking to my guns and not gonna do it...

BUt for how long I don't know... HAHA!

I hope I sell these soon!

If not I might just run them....

Here are the specs and pictures

Front is 19 x 8.5 + 38
Rears are 19 X 9.5 +45
5 x 114.3

(note:if your interested in the rims, almost brand new, asking $2500 US and yes I will ship to AU, PM me for details)

They are so light but the real surprise is how good they look and fit with those offsets... I thought that they would be too weak and be sunken into the body but they actually fit pretty well so I could tuck the rims all the way and keep get a nice stance going.

Not really what I'm looking for but I think I could rock it for a bit, just to change it up.

Well anyway atleast I can add it to the internet archive of Cefiro's with different rims...

As for the rest of the build, not much to report other than got a few other parts in and basically just doing more cleaning.

This coming week is going to be working on the cefiro and the bike.

I've been pretty busy with Formula D and my bike project so not alot has been done.

I do have a few pictures to add but nothing too big...

Also can someone just confrim this turbo...

I've read conflicting threads on Identifying this turbo...

It's either a S1 RB25DET

Or a NEO RB25DET

I'm thinking a S1 but it would be great if it was a NEO, cause it is in perfect condition, no saft play or anything and the internals are really clean that it has me thinking that it was a new replacement/ rebuilt or something... I don't think it was original...

45v4

527682_10151592804134236_1293071880_n.jp

Whichever one it is it's great news for me.

just want to know the limits of what I can get out of it,

if some one can post a thread that would be great!

Well thats all for me tonight!

I've been reading up on the turbo and I've been getting mixed reviews that it's a S1,S2, Neo and a VG30... hell it might all be correct info...

What I really just want to know is to confirm that it is ball bearing?

Dose what type of material is the intake and exhaust wheels are made out of?

And what is a safe boost for this with my current set up?

Thanks in advance guys!

  • 2 weeks later...

Found my A/C set up last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I so f**king happy!!!! you have no idea!

The summers here in SoCal can get bad and I was not looking forward to being stuck in traffic with no a/c again.

When last night out of the blue I recieved a text from a guy with a M30 Infiniti with a RB25 swap that was getting rid of his whole a/c setup, condensor and all.

The thing was that he had put a hole in is radiator and at 9 pm at night needed a radiator right away to get to work/school the next day.

Well I had my koyo unit that I still hadn't installed back into my car and long story short if your looking for a replacment condensor the set up from a F31 Lepoard/ M30 Infiniti is a direct replacement!

You will have to bend some lines but it works!

Now a Koyo unit for a condensor and a set of lines isn't a fair trade by far, not to mention I had to drive to him because well his car wasn't working and he was in a bind so he threw in pair of 15' Hayashi's that I'm just gonna use as decoration in my garage... and some no name camber plates.

But by far the best was a case of Arizona Green Teas! SCORE!! LOL!!!!

The guy was greatful, to say the least...

I'm just happy I got A/C but it was nice paying it forward and helping out a car guy as well...

Here are some pictures of the set up, I'll do a DIY of the swap in a few days just incase someone needs the info.

Well I'll update more later!

Looking good dude. :)

I think it's VG30 turbo.

It has no nipple fitting drilled into the compressor housing, which makes it either an R34 NEO or VG30 turbo, this means it will have a larger rear housing than RB20 and RB25 S1/S2 turbos. Slightly laggier, slightly more top end power.

The fins on the compressor are twin blade, which I believe is only the case on VG30 turbos.

All RB and VG30 turbos are ball-bearing and their limits are debated to be around 12-14 PSI.

Some are ceramic intake wheeled, some are plastic intake wheeled (R34 NEO), but the difference between them all is fairly negligible compared to high-flowed OEM turbos or aftermarket products, or anything with steel wheels.

^ Thanks for that info!!!

But here is the exhaust side if it helps... forgot to post this with the rest....

Also I took a magnet to the blades just to make sure they weren't metal...

They weren't.. :( haha!

I finally finished my rims today!

after a few days of the process they acutally came out great!

It was only about $50 for all the materials so all in all not bad!

$17 for JB Weld KWIK

$6 x2 for Duplicolor Wheel Paint

$6 x2 Etching Primer

$6 Clear Engine Enamel

-----------------------------

$47 +tax

So under $50 est.

thats if you do have a bodyshop to give you supplise... :P

so add to that...

Tape

sandpaper

paper

Prep-all... Clearner : Kleanstrip Prep All Auto Prep

an extra $15- $25 or so....

but all in all they came out awesome!

and for what I got the rims for I couldn't be happier!!!

And these also are my first refinish job on a set of rims just FYI...

So anyone can do this!

If your in socal and have questions, I do not mind answering some questions for you...

Now on to the pictures!

So I got the rims home and test fitted them on the car for the first time!

And I gotta say they look great!

I knew this style would go great with the Cefiro!

Perfect with the new brakes!

The new rotors actually space out the wheels a like 3mm from stock so it's liek I'm running a small spacer set up I guess

I'm taking a break tonight but I think I'm going to start putting her back together tomorrow, I miss driving her

So angled or straight??? HAHA!!

It's more of if I can make it or not at this point and the kool thing is that I can just un-bolt it with 2 bolts in a matter of seconds and change it out if I want so I'm thinking of making a few different designs after seeing how easy this one is starting to be to make

Hey m8, ya doin a good job on ya Cef, i think you have a 92 SE Cefiro,,,, as i have a 93 SE4, Same car except mine is 4WD, That Turbo looks the same as my RB25DET Neo , Cheers M8 , All i need now is my wiring loom to be finished an mine will be on the road, Jamind

    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
    • I’m not sure what happened I told them about sonic tunes free OTS tune and the next the I know .. I was booted..   To funny
    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
