I got my insurance from HBF. Got onto a guy there called RIAZ. His Phone number at HBF is 9265 6196. He has a "line" himself and was extremely helpful. Had been quoted $2200 from my broker and Riaz got it down to $867.10 paying quarterly. Hadn't had comprehensive insurance since 1972.

My details are as follows and I guess determined how I got such a good deal.

I'm over 30 (48 to be exact)

Only had 3rd party insurance on the van (for 10 years with GIO and no claims)

No smashes and only minor speeding fines ( 0 point/ $50 fine, infringments)

Just got the adjustment note from HBF and they've given me 60% no claim bonus, $150 preferred excess and agreed value of $19,000

Riaz did say they frown upon impaired driving infringments and major traffic offenses and obviously previous smashes.

I got a good deal, so if you have had a good record with your previous insurer, give Riaz a try at HBF, he might just save you $$

By the way, when I told the broker, he managed to get his price down to $1200. Funny how they can just knock off $1000 with a bit of pressure.

Well when I told Paul (autoworx) what the broker had quoted, he gave me the name of Riaz from HBF. Then the rest was history. If you and anyone else is interested, I'd phone him, but ask for him.

It could be that you might have spoken to someone that doesn't like dealing with "lines" and the like, but you'd expect that if the policy is to insure this type of car, then they would stick to it.

Anyway, give Riaz a try, he really was helpful.

I was very surprised when I got that quote.

AHAHAH!! SKYZER THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME LAST WEEK!!!!!

Yeah Rac had me insured as a 92 GTR but for $22,000! i then rang to say I am thinking of buying a GTST (which i really have)how much for that... they charged an extra $100 and i said how come you are charging more for a single turbo than a twin turbo.... her answer "WE DON'T INSURE TWIN TURBO's" HEEEEELOOOOOO MCFLY!! i then said well for the past year you have insured me as a GTR which i would hate to break it to you is a TWIN TURBO! "Oh" she said Ummm there must have been a mistake.....

Dangdidleedangdidleedoodilee RAC!:)

Maybe the same person signed us up??

I have now fixed it and renewed my policy however that was after they tried to fix in from a R32 GTR from to a R32 GTST because she couldn't find a 95 model skyline in her system..... went back to a different person and they then found it...proffesionalism at it's best!!

See I find this to be weird I just got a quote from RAC the other day for a 32 GTR and they had no problems with it, I also know of at least two other guys who have insurance on there GTR's through RAC as well. The lack of parts can not be a premise, because the R32 was sold locally. As for the twin turbo thingy, That's not a problem for me either. Hopefully everything will fall into place when the car arrives!

Yeah I don't understand it either.... when i was first looking for a car i wanted a 300zx i rang RAC and they told me that i couldn't insure a twin turbo with them, since then after speaking to quite a few dealers (even ones who sell 300zx's) it prob was a good idea i stayed away from them, but i was quite astonished when they had insured me as a GTR!

It must be who you talk to at the time like that guy RIAZ from HBF who was mentioend before in this thread... some of these guys say yeah no worries some just don't know whats going on... unfortunately i have had to deal with the latter of the 2 more!!

One of the guys in silwa tried to get insurance too, this was the reply they received

"Thankyou for using the RAC online facility.

We have been advised by our Underwriting department that effective

immediately, we will not be able to issue quotes or policies on certain

imported vehicles, popular sports models which appear below;

Nissan Silvia

Nissan Skyline

Nissan 180SX

Nissan 200SX

Nissan 300ZX

Toyota Soarer

Toyota Supra

Toyota MR2

This is being done while we conduct a review of coverage for these

particular vehicles. In many instances, when one of the above vehicles has

an accident, there can be a great difficulty in locating parts , or that the

cost of these parts is making the insurance premiums rise to unreasonable

levels.

Please be aware that this will not affect any policyholder currently insured

with one of the above vehicles - those policies will continue with full

coverage as per the policy. Also any variants of the above vehicles that are

not imported are not being removed. There are no immediate plans to

increase the premiums on existing policies.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me"

I'm assuming that they mean ALL Skylines???????? I know I've been eliminated anyway, that's for sure :D :uh-huh:

OK I just talked to Riaz (Who is a very, very helpful guy!!!!) about insurance on my skyline and he can unfortunately only help with insurance if you have the following:

+27 yrs old, and full no claims bonus ie 60%

I failed on the later part!

And Shannon's, from what I have heard, are really expensive.

Basically, if you are under 25 and drive an import, you are screwed, simple as that. If you are in the 17 - 20 yr old bracket you are in for a whole new world of insurance pain. Same goes for people with poor driving records.

Unfortunately that is what happens when every second import is crashed due to stupidity...

:D

How about the peeps my age with a line?

AFAIK RAC are the only people that will insure me for a skyline.... if they all of a sudden say "no more imports" then i'm SCREWED,and it looks like i'll kiss the skyline goodbye?!?!

    • I live in Thangool I cannot buy E85 fuel there or Biloela not many servo's sell it Rockhampton the  Ampol in Gracemere won't even sell 98 , it's hard to own a high performance car in CQ and NQ .
    • Sounds like a good excuse for a trip to Australia! But yeah, trying it out is probably the best way to go about it. Please report back what you find.
    • Well as I will have both S1 and S2 front parts i will see what works best out of the two. Im not fussed if i need to drill extra holes, and im a big fan of Nutserts/rivet nuts and a nice painted dome head bolt as a way to hold stuff in place where plastic clips have broken and are hard to source new ones
    • Yeah truthfully it seems like the headlight supports for the ALTIA and S2 should be the same, but they aren't. I can only guess that the grill area of the Altia bar is different to the grill area of the S2 bar. Either that or it's due to the S1 bar having an angle up to the center bar that the Altia doesn't, or something. That said, I recently bought an Altia bar myself, and I fit it over the S1 brackets and thought "Yes, this will all work fine" so even as I doubt my own words as I post, I also daresay you'll be okay.
    • Me too. Apparently the new version of Invision will allow some customisation so look forward to a 'Love' reaction and a new 'Like' icon.
