V35 Noisy Wheel?

Hi,

I’m having an issue with my 2003 V35 skyline. I have only recently had some new tyres put on the car as the previous tyres were on the way out. While they were getting fitted I was told that the front passenger side wheel has a noisy bearing. Driving it around now there is a significant amount of road noise coming from that particular wheel. The other thing I have noticed is when I turn a corner left, the noise disappears, when I turn right the noise changes to a sort of rotating "whummmmp whuumppp" (I guess?) type noise...this particular noise seems to come from everywhere.

While the new tyres were being fitted the guys there said I have a very noisy wheel bearing on the passenger front wheel. Could that explain the excessive road noise? Secondly in regards to the other tyres could it be the wheel alignment that is out? I had one done when the tyres were fitted.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

from the description of the noise : it seems to be a baring. the reason it will be on the left hand side of the car is also detectable from the turning noise

if you turn left the inertial force is greater on the opposite wheel IE you turn left but the right wheel gets the most pressure exerted on it.

The opposite happens when you turn Right Ie the greter the force is exerted on the left wheel. hence the reason the issue is with the left wheel. think of it this way when you turn left your body tends to lean right and vice versa.

if ur unsure take the car to a wheel and suspension specialist and they can check it out but id say by the sounds of it the diagnosis was correct .

I got a quote from Nissan to replace the front wheel HUB...$900! The guy i spoke to there said that there are several diffrent types of wheel hubs for the V35. Is that corect? Reason I ask is I have found one on Ebay (this particualr one has finished but there must be others around) here. Would that fit on my car? (As you can probably guess i know very little about this!).

I should say that its a 2003 coupe with the non brembo brakes.

Verrrry steep. I don't even bother with Nissan in Mackay anymore. Not since the head mechanic told me to go to a panel beater to get my compression rod replaced.....

not sure if they would be different as i myself never had to deal with this on the V35's but considering you have 4 door and 2 door versions as well as auto and manual there may be differences. i would try and find a mechanic that works with import cars or a customs shop and see if he can help you. take your time and do your research.

As for Nissan …. Get a gun next time and tell the wanker he should shoot himself with it. 1^st and last time I talked to a Nissan Steallership was when I asked for a cam shaft sensor and they wanted $600 … I ended up ordering it from the States for $50 from a genuine USA Nissan dealer. And it took me 15 min to replace Ausie Nissan dealers are just a joke

search for importers in QLD and call one to see if they have a service department and if they can help you out with some advice i hear there are a few in Brisi

I was having the same issue as you, exactly the same with the turning / noise stopping. I bought a wheel hub from the US for around $200 and got it fitted. The sound came back pretty quickly. Now I'm just leaving it.

Edit: Yes I can see from your sig it’s a coupe 5AT like mine however mine is a 03. Not sure if there will be a difference?

Hi all,

I had the left wheel hub replaced but the noise is still there and it even seems worse! Any ideas what else it could be? The mechanic did say that the right wheel hub also needs to be replaced and said the noise will not go away until this is done. I noted on the way home today that when I turn left the noise completely disappears...when I turn right the noise gets slightly worse.

Ill probably take it to a wheel/suspension specialist in the new year as most places are booked out.

that is pretty ordinary - he should have been able to diagnose which hub was at fault without even driving the car. the fact the noise is still there, if not worse, makes me think he got it wrong. maybe it was just the other side that needs replacing, maybe he's right and both sides do - but still - he should have been able to diagnose that up front.

it certainly sounds wheel bearing related. you might find that rolling along slowly in neutral with the windows down you can hear a 'tick tick tick' - another sure sign.

Probably the best way to describe the noise is like "Driving on a rail track" a sort of thunk thunk thunk that gets worse as speed increases...however just to mix things up it doesn't always make this noise, instead its just really loud road noise :\

I posted my issue on G35 driver and people are suggesting I check that the front and rear axles are greased. Apparently a common problem for the G35.

Apparently the issue is still the front wheel bearings! Is it common for a brand new wheel hub to be dodge???

Anyways am going to get the front two replaced hopefully in the next week or two.

Well it turn out that it was the right hand side wheel bearing that was also faulty. Replaced an now its whisper quiet in the cabin..hooray!

I guess its good to change the wheel bearings in pairs then?

Hi mate, would you mind mentioning how much it cost you? I am having the same issue, as Im getting that noise from one of my rear wheels. Initially I thought, its just the wind beating against the car body or tyre noise until I started reading these posts. I would like to know how much could it possibly cost be if I have to replace any of my rear wheel bearings? And also, a tyre place like Bob Jane or Jax Tyres would be able to do it ?

Rear wheel bearings are a different setup to the front.

Front wheel bearings come complete with the hub pressed permanently into the bearing, so it is just a bolt off/on affair that anyone with some mechanical knowledge can do at home.

Rear bearings need to be pressed off/on, so unless you have a decent press at home, you will need a mechanic to do it for you. Any decent mechanic should be able to do the job though.

Parts are cheaper for the rears, but will be offset by the labour cost.
