Just thought it would be good to start a thread on weightlifting, otherwise known as olympic lifting.

I know down at PTC they do a little bit of it, how much i am not too sure. Markos would be the best on that one.

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for it, and lately it's the only thing that interests me, so i'm just focusing on it atm.

I've trained at a couple of weightlifting gyms and the weights these guys are not only cleaning, but putting overhead is awesome.

Plus they can squat BIG weights, and could probably deadlift a fair bit if they did deadlifts.

So, who does a bit of it, do you focus on it or is it something on the side?

What weights are we cleaning, jerking, and snatching?

What assistance exercises are you doing for the lifts?

Or even if anyone wants advice on weightlifting?

I don't expect anyone to just do cleans and snatches, but i believe if your not doing them you are really missing out on some real explosive strength which would transfer to all your other lifts.

Armando is our best weightlifter

He just won Bronze at the World Masters in the Ukraine

He snatched 114kg and jerked 142kg

He had a crack with 149kg for the Gold, he cleaned it but lost it forward on the jerk

He is 50 years old and lifts in the 94kg class, he also squats 200kg

His best lifts when he was younger were 165kg snatch and 185kg jerk, 250kg squat

love Olympic lifting... My old man took me to the World Champs in Melbourne years ago... saw Suleymanoglu lift... I was about 12 but remember it pretty clearly

I actually like watching weightlifting more than powerlifting... watched most of the Londons olympics lifting

unfortunately my mobility is garbage... I can't even overhead squat properly so full snatch is out... never tried a power snatch as I don't think they'd appreciate me dropping the barbell at my gym... I power clean a fair bit... obviously don't go much heavier than about 90kg as I don't want to drop the bar... usually I do sets of 5 hang cleans at about 70-80kg

I also can't front rack the bar properly as my wrists aren't flexible enough... although I'm working on this with some light front squatting

I'd love to much around with oly lifts with some chalk, bumper plates and a decent bar... average gym bars don't spin properly

maybe I could come down for a session with Armando Markos? would be happy to pay for his services etc

Simon, Armando was a great snatcher, he was known for it

Nick, I was at the same comp in Melbourne

Nick, we actually use Max for weightlifting lessons, you'll know why afterwards

The comment on bar spinning. When we got our Zhang Kong, everyones powerclean numbers went up, it makes a big difference having needle bearings over bush bearings in the sleeve

Do I remember correctly that Suleymanoglu broke a couple of WR at that comp?

Awesome, can't wait to have a go with that bar... assuming Max's weightlifting sessions are a bit brutal? sounds like something I'd enjoy

My bar is shit, already bent and it's 3 weeks old.

Anyway, managed to jerk 125 from behind the neck the other day, got 115 from the front. Now if i could only clean it first :)

Also 5x5 of snatches at 60kg with 30sec rest between, bloody hard as. Went to squat afterwards and thought f this once i hit 160, didn't even get one rep, ha ha, legs were useless

One of the guys at my gym did 30x60kg snatches in 1min52sec, which is crazy, so i want to try and beat that

We had a Pendlay, just got rid of it

ABC make a brilliant OL bar, Ryan had one (Airwave)

I have the ladies (15kg) version with needle bearings, awesome bar

I get very good prices from Wayne at ABC, let me know if you want to go down there

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
