At least it will sound alot tougher, I reckon the note is worth the price alone:)

I gotta admit I thought exactly that myself mate

It does sound nice with all the changes. Can't wait to put cams in one day.

By the way I now have a sticker on my car, Boost Worx on front window. This new mod overlooks my bonnet and infuses its magic influence into my motor

Matt, when's the next AIR run?

Steve uses his roll cage Martin, he hangs his clothes on it when the factory clothes hanger is already full :)

Yeah Steve, you can borrow my neons, did you want my plastic look-a-like intercooler too? :) Hey you know how I've got the leaking BOV problem? I was actually thinking of blocking the BOV fitting off and just using one of those pretend electronic BOVs instead. That way I get the sound, without the leaks!

Lach, I'm pretty sure the next AIR meet is on the 6th of June? As I mentioned in the PM mate, I'm heading down to BW on Friday. The plan is to trial a muffler change (current Trust muffler is very quiet, and restrictive) and have a play with the BOV in an attempt to fix the leaking issue. You should see if you can head to BW as well? We could do a back to back comparo'.

Rightio, might see you there.

6th JUNE?? ill be there with or with out the nittos. I need to run the damm car

Won't be in town for the 6th unfortunately.

By the way, I drive my car to work everyday and use it for work on occasions, getting good mileage considering, 390-410km/tank and alot more of course if a driving in country.

But that's Skylines for ya, brilliant, as per the editorial by Ben Ellis in a recent HPI.

How many marks does -5 degrees retard equate to on the os cam gears? I also have OS and the marks are totaly different to HKS.

Sorry but I have no idea, Shaun did it and I wasn't there. I'll ask next time I'm there.

Lachlan/anyone else: are exhaust cams a big benefit to a car without cams or extractors?

I have heard a couple of schools of thought and it seems that if they really did give a little more power but more importantly made the turbo spool up to 500rpm earlier, then EVERYONE would have done this very cheap mod.

I am looking to have it done on the essfideen and want your thoughts.

Andrew

Here's my thoughts on cam gears Andrew... (using Andrew makes me feel as if I'm about to tell you off :()

The stock cam profiles are designed to work with the stock exhaust system, turbocharger, boost levels and so on. The more you move away from the factory set-up the more you'll find that cam gear adjustment "may" make a noticeable improvement. I would've thought the stock cam timing is a compromise between power and emissions too?

We've made cam timing adjustments to my motor twice (the original motor and the built motor) on both occassions there have been noticeable mid range and top end rwkw gains with nil loss down low (retarding ex cam for mid/top power).

Why don't more people do the cam gear mod? I don't know? It seems strange to not do it if you ask me. It's cheap power!

Andrew, could you repeat the question? Not 100% sure what you mean re your first sentence....were you drunk :(

er have edited it now .... my damn typing skillz .... without cams or extractors (and by cams I mean normal valve-open-and-close type ie. 256 with lift etc, not exh cams - obviously.)

Matt - thanks for your response - I thought as much! Do you remember how much your exh cam set you back?

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
