So here it goes I bought a r33 gtr series two, had some leaks here and there got it all fixed up and now runs great. So this car is pretty stock apart from the clutch and exhaust ,

So first I have a stock cat which I need to change due to restricting the rest of the system so now what brand and size should I be looking at and should it be a pretty easy home job??

Now pods are supposedly bad as well obviously be two sides to this but what type of pod should I install??

Now I want to do an initial tune as the cars running on 9 psi at the moment, so before I do that I need a ecu. Now I know there are 3 in the mix the power fc , power fc jetro and haltech platinum. Which and why ??

So now money stash is growing by this stage and saved up se extra cash I want extra hp, obvious turbos are the first thing ?? So I've read people suggest a few turbos and now I've seen people suggest the gtss the Hks 2860 I think is this correct ?? But what I don't understand is the -7 -5 at the end of each model what is this ??? As what are these supporting mods people mention ?? Is there anything else that I need to achieve power gains I'm looking at 450-500hp but I don't want to strain the at either.

Sorry for being a pain but thank you to those that take the time in helping

The -7 and the -5 are a designation of the different size of the turbos. Please dont ask which one will suit my need, as I know of at least 5 threads that cover this in detail.

Supporting mods would be

  • Bigger injectors
  • fuel pump
  • free flowing exhaust

Cat is a few bolts and time to get a hernia when cracking the old bolts. Brand? Doesnt matter, get a 3-4" body cat with matching inlets to your exhaust. 100 cell.

Pods.... You know you need two right? and you need adapters, and you know they are defectable... and that people have run 400kw on the stock air box...

ummmm.... you forgot the best ecu, link (haha, haters gonna hate) WHY?! Because I said so, jk, it allows you to run map, and eflex. It will open your world for less than the haltech and for more than the powerfc.

I went from a powerfc to link. Link doesnt give me that annoying miss on cruise.

so ill try answer quick here but there is plenty of information on the this forum all you need to do is a quick search :)

1. from what you are saying im assuming you only have a catback and have not changed the front pipes...This would be in order if you are going to change the turbos and i would suggest doing this all at once.

2. most pods are fine but do try and avoid the oil type pods and if you need to make an enclosure to keep most of the hot air away from them

3. there are endless options of ECU's available and not just those 3. I suggest you do some hard research and find the one that best suits your needs and what you will be doing with the car

4. as for the turbos again endless options are available but you will need supporting mods like the below. the ones you have mentioned vary in size depending on which one you go and will offcourse change the way they act on the car with how/when they come etc etc

- fuel pump

- injectors

- zaust as previously mentioned

as will be said in this thread a 1000 times start researching before you purchase anything and you will see much more clearly where and what you will need to get to where you want to be

Go into the forced induction thread and at the top is an RB26 dyno results. Start your research.

450-500 hp (assumed at the wheel) should be forged bottom end for reliability. You can do it with stock internals and then it just a question of how long it will last. Again, lots of opinions on this but don't underestimate the potential.

Coming from stock I suggest you really consider what are the right upgrade stages for you. Jumping from stock to that power level is a big difference. Not to mention the other items you should be doing to make sure the car can handle it (being it's age) such as replacing old bushes and arms.

Done right these cars have massive potential but I always caution folks. Remember you are talking about a power level 2x the original. So it will require the right planning and engineering (therefore $$) to make it perform right at that level.
