Hi,

I am certain a number of people who use these may suffer same or have done. So I'm looking for a shop that can recalibrate firstly then diagnose and repair.

Car: Late 92 R32 GTR. Nismo 320kmh, 11000rpm Cluster - Tacho Eratic - Recalibration and Repair of Tacho required.

Note: It has the blue plastic circuitry used in the 92 onwards GTR's.

It can read 800 or 11000 at startup, then work perfectly for an indeterminate amount of time and then off the dial again. and then go back to normal.

There is no "tell" when it will happen or what makes it happen or what resolves it.

Any and all tips on how to DIY appreciated. Although I think it may be best to get someone who knows what there on about to help me.

Thanks guys

Richard

How lucky are you. I just spent way too much getting mine pulled out of my GTST33 due to no time for me to do it. Lost the car for a week. Guess what, lasted two days before it stuffed up again. Then it was normal, then it wasn't. At the moment it is normal but it will happen again by tomorrow. Advanced Automotive Instruments is in Bankstown I think, give them a call. That's who I made the original inquiry to. I got Advan Performance to do mine but don't know who they used. They did take it to an instrument repairer though so might have been them.

So trying to fix it is a waste of time is what I'm saying. Get a new one. Does your speedo jump a little ?

Ahhh - thank you.

No the speedo stays stable and is correct. Just adhoc spikes in the Tacho.

But seriously thanks heaps for giving me a shop name. I will call them on Monday.

I'd say Advan would have used the same shop. I don't think they're far from them.

If it's not fixed you should be entitled to get cash back or suppose good will on the nxt work you get Advan to do.

I'll check to see if you can buy each dial individualy.

Cheers and thanks again

Richard

Perhaps I just move the facia of the tacho unit onto a stocker unit I have and transplant it in.

I don't push it past 8200rpm so going to a 11000 wont be an issue.

All good, Peter said he'll make it up to me. If your tacho is all over the place then pay attention to your speedo and see if it jumps 10 kays and back again. Annoying.

    • Ok so after much research and talking with knowledgeable people I've got my turbo conversion done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.  Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd. But nothing drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic.  I'm sure there is may e 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Dose anyone here have any ideas?   Cheers guys
    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
