Cool build Tonba. I've grown a real soft spot for evo's lately. Did the stockish setup of the 8 get boring too quickly or were you just modifying it without any real plan to begin with? I only ask because I'd like to own an viii myself one day when I sell the sky.

Thanks copycutter.

I originally set-out to build a car to do street duties, run consistant 12's at the strip, and 1:08's at Wakefield.

(Remember this was 5-6yrs ago, when 98RON was the norm and a 1:06 @ wakefield was consided SUPER quick..)

I managed to get 220kW, low 13's (13.1-13.2 sec passes) and a high 1:08 @ wakefield., but the engine developed a problem with the lifters and oil-rings so we decided to rebuild. From there things just snowballed. I kinda lost my way with no real plan, and ended up with a car that simply was not fun to drive on street - Im sure #@34GeeTeeTee can help me elaborate there...

After just too many engine/tune issues, and now hating on the car, I took the car to JEM and they found major issues with the engine build.. So the decision was made to 'start from scratch'. Every item I am picking is to build an absolute street monster..

The NEW goals are;

-Street Car, Understated but turns heads

-Run in the 10's in the quarter mile in FULL STREET TRIM (ie street rubber, synchro gearbox and all)

-Run a 1.04 to 1.05sec lap at wakefield.

If it didn't have issues when it was at 220kw do you think you'd have still gone full house eventually? Is that a common fault with evo 8's or were you just unlucky?

If you knew this clown you would know the answer! He is halfway through one build and already planning the next :P

Look, 220kW was very fun on the street, and with e85 it only would have been better. I never ment to go FULL-RACE spec. I just got carried away. But I was always going to build a serious street car.

It isnt a common problem. Just very unlucky.

Guilty as Charged...... :P

Already trying to talk myself out of a Wide-Body Kit & Twinscroll HTA3586R.

My 250kw nugget kept up with you so you wanted MOAR :P That is the true story haha

Just shuddup and stay on target!

You speak the truth. If it wasnt for you mate, who knows what the hell I'd be doing... the car that NEVER runs because its just constantly getting modded. lolz

Hence why you will get the build and paint done and get it back on the street to enjoy! Now get more engine part pics etc online! Carnage and all!

No worries champ. When I get more pictures (particularly of the head) I'll post. At the moment I have nothing new to show.

Lol you two are classic egging each other on.

Why do you think he went to a HTA turbo? ;)

He#@34GeeTeeTee forsaw the need for more power... Scared I tells ya!

I have pictures of Carnage! Dont make me post them!

Car head's over to bodyform today. Currently looking into a Varis carbon fibre roof... Depends on timing really. If I can get the roof in 4-5 weeks I might do it.

I think I have decided on colours, but going to paint a test first to make sure while the body is being prepped.
I WAS going to look a widebody, but it now looks like I wont be. Too difficult, and will loose the very 'stock' understated look I'm going for.

Engine wise, not a whole lot is going on. Rods & crank delivered, pistons still being made which will be finished in a week or two. The head has finished getting portwork done, and is currently getting assembled with the valve train. Still waiting on photos. Either way, Ill get photos and post them up when it is delivered which should be before month end.

With the old engine setup, we ran a standard sump with tomei baffle plates, but with the new setup we are considering a Moroso/AMS fabricated sump which has extra baffles to make sure oil stays where is should, and an extra 1.4L of capacity. To go with this, we are also considering a Moroso/AMS accusump, which has another 1.4L of capacity. If and when oil pressure drops during extreme cornering or acceleration, the accusump automatically pumps extra pressure into the system to make sure everything is well lubricated. The additional benifit with all this extra oil, in addition to the twin oil coolers, there should be NO TROUBLE in keeping oil temp's in check.

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
