I've noticed recently that on 3rd and 4th gear when I push it to just past 3k rpm the car violently jerks. It almost feels like the engine just cuts out and then comes back into play.

What could be the problem here?

Airflow cut.

Or your girlfriend getting excited, sometimes they can't wait to get home... Those were the days...

This might be a stupid question but is it a major problem and how much am I looking to get it fixed?

LOL. My girlfriend doesn't drive a manual.

If the car is stock, the AFM could need re-soldering. If it is modified you will need to let us know the mods, and what, if anything was changed recently.

The only mods it has is a K&N air filter and a full 3" exhaust system (Don't know what brand) and that's about it really.

Try cleaning the AFM first, if that doesn't fix anything, try the re-soldering trick on the afm (there is a how to here) or borrow another one to try.

How old are the plugs?

Sorry I'm really new to skylines so what is an AFM?

The 'air flow meter' it is the black plastic tubing before your k&n filter. With the wiring coming out.

Easy to remove. Recommend searching for the diy on cleaning and soldering afm

I can't seem to find the afm. Do you have a picture that could help me out?

if you cant find the afm then the chances of you fixing the car yourself are limited at best

suggest employing a qualified mechanic to sort the car out for you?

  • 2 weeks later...

do you know how much boost you are running or if you have a guage what it hits just befor the cut

Unfortunately not. Just replaced my air filter though and the problem seems to have disappeared. Might be getting a gauge in the near future though so its easier to diagnose problems.

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
