Hi all,

The rear driver side handbrake shoe on my car is missing the spring that is held on my a flathead pin. The result is the second shoe flaps against the rotor, making a ticking noise. post-100746-1378299740277_thumb.jpgI hope to find this spring from a wrecker tomorrow.

My concern is : Is it just a simple plug and play? Or do I have to adjust the shoe or anything else? Once I get the spring, do I just place it between the pin and attach it? (I dont know how this pin is retained to the shoe)

I only have tomorrow to get this fixed, hence I want to avoid any surprises. Damn car is giving me headaches!

Pic attached is of the flathead pin and of the second pin+spring thats working fine.

The only purpose of that spring is to keep the shoe in place, so if you can't find a stagea one at a wrecker you should be able to use any spring of a similar size and strength; most drum brake setups will have one. If not a wrecker try a hardware or industrial supplies shop.

And no, you won't have to adjust anything after replacing it

I would just go to a brake specialist and they will no doubt be able to rummage up something out of a pile of scrap.

That was my final option. Got a spring and retainer pin from wrecker.

My new issue is that the handbrake wont hook up until the last click. I am guessing its as simple as using a flathead through the hole in the rotor and click click..?
