well after many months of the road i finnaly have my GTR going again... and best of all no more smoke. would be quicker to write what the engine bulder did right than wrong, ended up putting genuine nissan rings back in as i didnt trust him with anything more complicated, once the block was honed again and the pistons rods and crank were fitted i took the bottom end home while the cylinder head was sent south to sydney.

Had some mild porting work done while it was away as i figured it would be a good time to have this done... not keen in pulling the engine out again in the near future although im getting pretty quick at it.

Its all run in now and running sweet, finnaly going to get a chance to get it to the drag strip and see what it can do. have been noticing a little bit of detonation everynow and then, seems to be late at night when the air is cooler as the peak hold function on my boost controller is showing its making around .6 to .8 bar more peak boost at night than during the day, have 3 setting's so will probally try and set the third setting to something i can use at night. would have thought it would be less prone to detonation when its cooler, but i think the boost controller is not helping the situation, may be something to do with the sensitivity of the gate pressure aswell so might take a bit of mucking around to get right. havent seen anything over 62 on the power fc and its only on the odd occasion so im not to concerned, but definately needs fixing.

Any ideas on what heat range spark plug would be best for our heat up here. its generally never below 20 at night and about 30 to 35 during the day. its running HKS 2530's at 1.5 bar, was thinking about getting some IRITOP NGK's in the 8 heat range and seeing how they go. it had BCP7ES when it was in melbourne so was thinking the next colder heat range might be better for our hot weather?

So the next step will be some better cam shafts to suit my head work and turbo's, as i still have stock cams, anyone have any opinions on what cam shafts would best suit my setup?

It's awesome to finnaly have it going again, nothing beats the feeling of punching a modded gtr down to the shops... hopefuly it pulls a good time at the strip :)

We only ever use copper plugs, iridium, platinum etc are only of use when you want long plug change intervals. The plugs never stay in our engines long enough. We run the BCPR7ES everywhere. I really can't say as I have seen any difference as a result of ambient temperature, and we have raced in 40+ degree weather. I guess when you have an ~800 degree explosion, 10 degrees either way doesn't make a lot of difference.

Hope that helps :D

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
