Just thought id start a little topic about the few good tuners that we have in Canberra. Who do you use and why? Also what ecu's your tuners specialize in.

Please everybody put out your opinions and why.

This info hopefully helps anyone looking to tune there car get a rough idea on who they are going to go with.

Hey guys I'm running a haltech platinum in my r33 gtst. As much as ed from Autotech hates haltech's, he tune my car for me.

I'd like to say the guys out at Autotech are very friendly and offer great customer service.

Ed himself I'd highly recommend as a tuner in Canberra as there are only a handful of them around. He was very helpful with any question that I had and really knew what he was doing.

Although if I had a choice of ecu because Ed is my tuner i would have gone with an autronic, Ed is canberra authorized dealer for them and he highly recommends them.

Ed wasn't the first person that came to mind when it came to tuning my car but a friend of mine recommended him to me and he was happy to get me in almost straight away, I went with him.

I'd like to say I'm very happy with my tune, although we could have pushed more out of it we chose not to as we wanted it to be a safe tune. Car runs very and I'd have to say that I've had a lot of different tuners tune my cars over the years this would have to be the best place I've ever been too & I'm a picky guy.

Good tuners are hard to find that's why I'm posting this up. Anyone unsure on who to tune there car I'd highly consider Autotech.

The boys there will take care of you.

Thanks everyone.

Boils down to choose who you feel comfortable with. Each one of these shops below had/has issues with vehicles that have shit themselves.

Certain shops have ECU Tuning preferences. For me at the moment:

Ed (Autotech) tunes my 34GTT - Nistune (Autronics & Nistune dealer)

Glen (ESP) tunes my 32 GTR - Haltech (Haltech & Vipec's)

John (Trojan) does all my mechanical - coz I trust him, he's experienced and VERY helpful. (Jake does the Tuning and as far as I know will do any ECU)

Some folks use Ultimate Tunes.

I'm not tied to any shop. If asked would recommend any of the above based on what is required to be done.

If I have a bad experience I change shops and they loose my business, and sometimes my Skyline buddies will avoid the shop.

If any of these contributed to critical engine failure I take them to task over it.

Engine builds are best done interstate in my Opinion. Croydon's (CRD) built mine. Racepace I hear good things about. JEM is changing hands

Bolt on's and tuning as I said above is who you feel comfortable with.

Oh and I should add if you have an engine built get them to tune it after run in. Then there is no pointing of fingers if the worst happens within the warranty period.

My cars are not heavy hitters either. The closer you drive it to it's limits and beyond the closer you are to your next rebuild.

Shit happens and some drivers contribute greatly to the failure. No car is bullet proof. If you ring it's neck it will die.

Treat your car within tolerances and it will look after you.

Thanks for all replays. It gets boring in our a.c.t section so a bit of talk here and there keep it more interesting lol.

I'm no knocking any work shops I'm just very happy with the service and workmanship I received at Autotech. So that's why I'm recommending them.

I also had a little issue with my tune as it was a tad rich leaving black up the back side of my car. Ed booked me in and had to stay back to 7.30 to chuck my car on the dyno and run over things again. He ended up dialing up more boost for me and checked through it all.

He did all this for me free of charge as he said he wanted to keep me happy. I don't know to many tuners like that.

I am Just a happy customer.

I basically had the same experience at Trojan.

Free Retune to achieve what I originally wanted, but due to some issues, didn't get first time round.

I've used crd when I was living in Sydney as well. The are prob one of the workshops I'd highly recommend.

Trojan are very good no one knows skylines like. John in Canberra. He was who I originally wanted to tune my car but it's like a 4 weeks waiting list which was inconvenient for me.

Myself included. Wielded a few parts on my car as well as a few other things he did free of charge(:

I also use Bob Jane in Belco for tyres - extremely nice staff and always give discounts :)

I would say trojan as well. John is the guru of skylines.

Have always went to him, yes his prices are sometime a little too high but he is the only person i trust

Also he has a dyno on the floor which is so good for cars which are too low

My brothers R34 with Apexi SAFC was tuned my him.

All tuners will have horror stories and good things said aobut them.

Get quotes from the major shops in canberra

and go from there based on price vs customer service. Some shops that treat 1 person really well might fk over someone else. So just go on your gut feeling.

    • @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo. I just put over 7000k USD to "LINK" up my engine...dont want to blow it up with cheap turbo 😄     EDIT: https://www.cj-motor.com/gcg-turbo-charger-for-nissan-rb20det-rb25det-high?srsltid=AfmBOooVeOZ6CZ6r1AIv5m-KPaa6BvudIPJTY8LW78khkd-gQlsaCht9 I looked at this and it seems ok? It is that CGC hybrid and it costs around 1250 USD (with back shipping). Do any of you have experience with this hybrid on NEO turbo? I quickly look thru the forum/web and it seems very good.

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
