Just wondering if anyone knows how to rescale the map sensor on PFCs? Can this be done through datalogit?

here's the background story

My HC boost reading is -260mmHg when the engine's off (0mmHg), sensor output shows 1.5v on the HC which I gathered its correct after having done a search online and read through Paul's PFC guide

at Idle it shows -560mmHg which is pretty much right.

at stock boost level 7psi-ish, the HC shows near 0mmHg

I have also tried two sensors- both does the same thing, also tried to reset the PFC via HC and whilst it has reset everything else, it hasn't helped with the boost reading

I believe the map sensor is operational but the scaling was adjusted by previous owner of the PFC (if this can be done), god knows how many owners it has gone through.

have read through paul's PFC guide, although it does have reference to rescaling the map sensor but looks like the information is for djetro PFCs

You cannot re-scale the MAP sensor, if its giving you false readings then there is either a problem with the MAP sensor, the wiring, or the Power FC itself.

If you have tried a different MAP sensor then it is unlikely to be that (are you using the right one?)

So that leaves either a wiring issue or an internal Power FC problem

Easy enough to check the wiring, put a meter from one end to the other checking for minimal resistance between each end of the wire

If this fails it may be a problem with the Power FC

I take it you have checked the connections to the MAP sensor? It would be a bit odd for there to be something causing this with the car off, but might pay to unplug the boost feed to the sensor and just hold it in free air. You could also check nothing is stuck in the map sensor inlet but I would be very suprised if this was the problem

Yup thank you that helped a lot

The map sensor is from kando dynamics, tried two sensors and both have the same issue

I do have a genuine apexi one on the way, but it's probably a week away

The wiring harness is new so I doubt it's that.

I have a blitz turbo timer with built in boost gauge which feeds off the same line (stock boost gauge source) and they all read correctly

Guess I'll just patiently wait for my apexi sensor to arrive and hope for the best

yeah i think you need the apexi sensor or you will have issues. Because you cant tell it what sensor you are using (on the boost control side anyway), it will assume its the apexi sensor. So anything different to that will not work properly

The kando dynamics map sensor actually looked almost exactly the same as the apexi and having checked with the seller he claims it will work with PFC, avcr and emanage

I've got the new genuine apexi one in the post today so I will put that on later and see how that goes

Cheers

looks like I've got the wrong map sensor- tried the genuine apexi one and that is still doing the same thing

the one I bought is the same as the AVCR- had AVCR in my old car and I just assumed that its the same as the one in power fc boost controller kit

Is this the correct one for PFC boost controller? PN: 949940-6270, denso 3 bar- seems to be the same as the one used in Djetro PFCs

I can conclude that AVCR sensor is different compared to the PFC map sensor, had the wrong sensor so that's what was causing the boost numbers to not read right on the hand controller

Got another map sensor on it and it's now showing the right boost levels, verified against the blitz boost gauge

for anyone who's interested, the apexi denso one cost around $2~300, GM 3 bar sensor works but price varies and you'll need to do some soldering to fit the plug, so I thought I'd give this $40 no brand generic sensor a go and it was pretty spot on, been on the car for a few days now and it works fine

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
