The Toyota Supra's 2JZ is non-interference isn't it..?

i was under the impression the 1JZGTE was non-interferrence. I know someone who snapped a cambelt in a soarer and didnt break or bend a thing.

I think they are a non interference engine as well, at least in stock form.

In 1998 they came out with VVT-I, which is classified as an interference engine.

i was driving my alfa, then bang, engine stopped, timing belt broke, valves all bent, me broke

Also a guy in adelaide driving his 32 has his timing belt break due to an over tensioned idle pully i think which snapped the belt, and bent valves.

If u r lucky, only the valves bend, but if unlucky, the pistons can get damages aswell which is bigger bucks.

Anyway back on topic, i think it was discussed before that standard belts are the same if not exactly the same as the aftermarket ones, they just come in different packages i think,

That was me Previous owner had 100k servise done and the shop overtightened the idler bearing bolt. BANG! on the way home.....

Took off the head and found cylinder number 2 looking like below....2 snapped exhaust valves, and a mashed spark plug.....

Replaced motor with RB31DET - new timing belt part # 94407 for conversion = $30

the mazda B series engine are non interfreance. the BPD (Mazda famila GTR) engine in my tx3 does 157kw stock from a 1.8 turbo, and thats cause mazda slapped on a super restrictive exhaust.
